1. RE: [PERKINS] Re: Genealogy Programs
2. Forte
3. Hello All, I like Ancestral Quest http://www.ancestralquest.com/ I have used AQ since 1996. Ancestral Quest version 3 is PAF version 4. After that the two programs have gone their separate ways. One of the reasons (there are many more) I like AQ is because AQ lets you give your sources a type while PAF doesn't. It doesn't matter in the beginning when you don't have many sources, but when you have a lot of them it is a lot easier to look under a certain type for them. AQ is an easy program to use. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. As you get more advanced it has those feature as well such as media and the creation of web pages. My web site(URL below) was made with FrontPage 2000 and AQ for the surname pages. If you want to see one way in which it adds pictures look in the last generation of my WALLACE surname. Click on "Ancestors" button. If anyone has any specific questions on this program please fell free to email me and I will be happy to try and answer them. Bye for now! 1. [PERKINS] RE: Perkins in the Revolutionary War Project
2. Warren Davis
3. Here is the info for John Perkins late of Plainfield, Windham Co., CT, who was a leading member of the Susquehanna Company which settled the Wyoming Valley (now centered on Wilkes-Barre, PA, originally New Troy, CT, then Wyoming, PA), and several sons. I am a direct descendant of this John Perkins and his wife Hepzibah Griswold, and their son David Perkins (b. Jan. 1, 1769) and his wife Sarah Ferrier. > Subject: [PERKINS] Perkins in the Revolutionary War Project > Resent-From: [email protected] > Resent-Date: Fri, 2 Feb 2001 09:28:17 -0800 > > I am getting ready to update and clean up the Revolutionary War Project. Simon Spaulding's Independent company of the Wyoming Valley (then part of Connecticut). > Loyalist or Patriot: Patriot > Commanding Officer if known: Capt. Simon Spaulding, under command of Col. Zebulon Butler. His company and the company of Capt. John Durkee, also under Butler's command, about 700 men in total, were involved in the Battle of Wyoming (aka, Wyoming Massacre) on July 3, 1778. About 3,000 British troops under Maj. John Butler, Tories, and hired Iroquois Indians from upstate NY raided Wyoming Valley. The battle was lost by the Connecticut Yankee settlers, and most were savagely killed and scalped, many burned, in three days of marauding after the battle. John Perkins and his family escaped; John came back to the valley soon afterward, but was killed on Nov.7, 1778. His wife stayed in CT; Surviving sons David, Aaron and Griswold returned to Wyoming and prospered there. > When mustered in and out if known: 1778 > Colony: Connecticut and Pennsylvania were fighting over rights to this territory (Wyoming/Wilkes-Barre) before and after the War of Revolution. It was knbown as the Yankee-Pennamite War. Eventually the Pennamites prevailed , but terms allowed original Yankee settlers to retain lands or receive compensation. At the time of the Revolutionary War, the troops were mustered on behalf, and by authority of Connecticut. > Birth and death date if known: b. 1728, d. 7 Nov 1778 -- see below: ===================================================================== € JOHN15 PERKINS (JOHN14, JACOB13, JACOB12, JOHN11, HENRY10, THOMAS9, HENRY8, THOMAS7, WILLIAM6, THOMAS5, WILLIAM4, JOHN3, HENRY2, PETER MORLEY1) was born Abt. 1728 in New London, Conn., and died November 07, 1778 in Kingston, PA. 1. [PERKINS] genealogical software and commercial data sources
2. Hi Pam you wrote to reply off line but this is a topic that comes up every year and it is beneficial for all considering the purchase or upgrade. I personally benefited when I changed programs by a couple of days of conversations that went on. In a message dated 01-02-03 13:03:01 EST, you write: I am about to purchace a new genealogy program, as I am unhappy with the one I have. I would like everyones input as to their best pick of programs. Please respond to me off list, as I do not wish to start a big discussion on the list. I will post the results to the list. Also, has anyone purchased the set of Census Index CD Bundle from Family Tree maker 1607-1880? Is this purchase worth it? <<<<<<<<<<< I myself decided on Family Tree Maker some years ago. I have not upgraded it. I purchased the cheapest package as I was advised that the CD's were incomplete, unsourced, and generally not worth the cost. The difference in the packages at that time was the number of cd's that they included, not the program itself. I have been very happy with the software, though there are a few things that I would like for it to do now that I am more experienced and am organizing my data in different ways. I was also advised at that time that most of the better programs would do nicely, they just had a few different options that might or might not be of use to me. There were a few programs that some people were very dissatisfied with. (I do not remember which ones they were) I was also advised not to submit my research to any of the commercial firms as they would publish it in with all the other data and make a profit on my efforts. They would sell good research in with plagerised copying of bad data making their product technically all but worthless, in fact worse than worthless as some would pass on that bad data as researched thus furthering the dissemination of bad data. I hope others will supply the names of the programs that they use that they like. I will be passing on the comments to the PERKINS and RUGGLES lists for the edification of those subscribers. Bill

1. [PERKINS] Loyalist PERKINS
2. Hi all as most of you know I am of a different "political" ancestral (ROFLMAF) persuasion so I have little interest in Continental or State veterans of the war of 1775-1783 (at this time) but I am very interested in communicating with those of you who might have veterans whose beliefs led them to be of the Loyalist label for any reason, not just the moral dilema that their descendents faced in the "other" War of Secession, 1861-1865 -- blood against blood, friend against friend. Even if you have no proof but because they uprooted and moved to Canada suddenly and without any aparrent reason, I want to communicate with you. For the other War preceeding the "Revolution", the last of the French and Indian Wars, I am compiling data on individuals and engagements, mostly for the engagements in the Champlain Valley, NY and mostly New England colonials. I am interested in corresponding with anyone who has data on ANY individuals not just PERKINS or RUGGLES. Have a great weekend, really nice here in Raleih, NC, only in the upper 40's but crystal clear Carolina Blue sky. Feels like Spring is trying to come on. Bill

1. [PERKINS] John J. and Millie Cameron FINALLY!!!!!
2. I am pleased to announce that I have finally found the final resting place for John and Millie Cameron. In 1892 they moved to Delano, MN. and lived there for three years until John died. He is buried in St. Peters Cemetery in an "unmarked" grave. Millie and the four kids moved to Minneapolis in 1895. Millie died in 1897 and was sent to Delano for burial. She is buried in a different Cemetery than John. A wonderful man by the name of Mr. Rieland did the research for me. He read to me over the phone the obits for both John and Millie. John was Catholic, Millie was "Very active in the Methodist Church" Some great news has also come from this discovery. Also in Delano was Millie's sister Mary and her family. Her father Mr. Alexander H. Lyons lived there too (he was 89 at the time Millie was buried). As I was driving home from work tonight I also had another "Revelation". The mystery over the youngest child Elvie, I believe goes like this... Charles M. Perkins marries Lucinda (Lucy) Lyons in 1880 in Wadena Co.(Charles wife is listed as Lucy Perkins). They have a child Elvina Perkins. Lucy dies when she is 30 years old in 1884 (the birthdates match, the rest is assumption) The John and Millie Cameron family take and adopt little Elvie. (Elvie Perkins later marries Charles Cooper on her 20th birthday Aug. 20th 1901). Charles later remarries Anna Perkins and they have sons George and Charles N. Perkins. Mr. Rieland is going to send me all this documentation (I can hardly wait!) He is also going to help me place markers at the sites of Harrison and Stephan Lyons. They were both members of the 1st Minnesota Volunteers during the Civil War. They have heroic stories. Both men are in unmarked graves. Mr. Rieland is known as a "Missionary" for this cause. He has placed HUNDREDS of markers on the gravesites of people whom he finds in unmarked graves in Minnesota. I still have several mysteries to solve. I do not yet know where John J. Cameron was born and his parents names. I would love to find out what happened to John Cameron Jr. I am hopeful that I might find descendants from him and connect with lost Cameron family. Another mystery is a woman named Ida or Ada Cameron. She was living in the John Cameron household in Duluth in 1890-1. She also paid for three cemetery plots one of which is Millie's. I am so grateful for this breakthrough. I want to thank everyone for all their help and support. I am looking forward to the next brick wall and the next and the next.... Dean Cameron

1. [PERKINS] General Simon Perkins
2. Anyone out there know anything about this? Ohio. Reply above or to [email protected]. Citation from Akron Chapter DAR website: "RICHARD HARRINGTON was born 22 April 1756 in Rhode Island. He married Roby Perkins in 1774. As a Revolutionary soldier he was a member of Arnold's expedition to Quebec; he was in the battle when Montgomery fell, and also took part in the battle of Stillwater. About 1815, Richard moved to Tallmadge, OH and purchased a farm. He died on his farm 8 June 1831. Richard and Roby are buried in Harrington Cemetery in Northampton. Stone. In 1990 DAR Index." 1. [PERKINS] Perkins from Wadena MN.
2. Well, I am starting to unravel the mystery of Elvie Cooper. I used to think that she was Elvie Cameron married Charles Cooper in Duluth Aug. 20 1901. She turned out to be Elvina Perkins b. Aug 20 1881 in Wadena Co. She was adopted at about age 4 by my GGGrandparents John and Millie Cameron. She was the daughter of Charles M. Perkins and Jane (I think) Perkins. Jane died in 1884 at the age of 30. Charles was alive but he was 45 at the time of Jane's death. My guess is that he could not care for his daughter and my Cameron's stepped in. Charles later remarried and had at least two other children. I have all their names but unfortunately they are at my office. I'll repost again Fri. to make sure I have all the names right. Any Perkins out there who might be related to Elvina???? Thanks, Dean Cameron

The website located at http://www.genexchange.org/esb/index.cfm is the brain child and ambition of Monica Bennett, who has been working endlessly to transcribe the original records from microfiche. Called the single most important genealogical source material for New York City discovered this century, the New York Emigrant Savings Bank, opened in 1850 and run by Irish immigrants, for Irish immigrants, contain records for emigrants from California, Michigan, Florida, upstate New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Alabama and Missouri and are a true treasure trove of information. The records, being painstakingly transcribed by Monica Bennett, are some of the most sought after genealogical source materials, particularly for the New York Metropolitan area.. These key genealogical resources are sure to unlock mysteries for anyone looking for an emigrant ancestor who might have emigrated through New York. The records contain details about the place, date of birth, relatives, as well as military duties the emigrant might have had in the United States, and much, much more.

1. [PERKINS] Civil War Perkins
2. There are three Perkins listed in the Roster of the Historic Regiment "1st Minnesota Volunteers" If you do not know about them it is worth reading the book "Last Full Measure" by Richard Moe. You can find them online at www.firstminnesota.com Click on "Old First" then click "Roster of old first" and then search the database by "Last Name" you will find three "Perkins". The last of the three is an Ellet Perkins and the site has a wonderful picture of him in Full Uniform. I am not related to any of these men. But my "Perkins" connection may come from there somehow. I have two GGGUncles who were in the 1st Minnesota and the stories are heroic. Their sister (my GGGrandmother) and her husband adopted a young girl named Elvina Perkins in Aldrich, Wadena Co. MN. sometime between 1885-1888. Several of the veterans of the 1st lived in that area. There was another Vet. of the Civil War there from another unit named Charles Perkins. Oh well another mystery to solve........ Dean Cameron

1. [PERKINS] Perkins in the Military texts
2. Hi all There is a many Vol Set named "The Roster of Confederate Soldiers, 1861-1865" It lists each participant alphabetically and their State Rgt & Co. There are about 5-700 PERKINS listed there. Another set is "The Roster of Union Soldiers, 1861-1865" which lists, by state each individual, Rgt, Co., rank. You do not want to know how many PERKINS are listed, the number is absolutely HUGE. I have looked through a one Volume listing for the Mexican War, but do not remember what info is there nor how many. Most State Libraries or Archives usually have these sets. Bill
