He cannot be found on the SS INDEX, because I was told by SS he never collected. My mother died in 1996 at the age of 87 and can be found, because she collected SS. My paternal grandfather died in 1963, after having collected SSA for years, yet he is not on the list. His widow, who collected until her death in 1969 is on the list. My maternal grandmother was employed after her husband died in 1942, and she collected SSA benefits from her retirement until she died in 1960, but she is not on the list. Yet my great great uncle, who died in 1940, IS on the list. Go figure. Frankly, I think the reason people are omitted on-line has more to do with SSA having to manually input early data, than anything else.
