    1. South Phila.,PA City Directory Listings and other info on RITTERs and RUTTERs
    2. Hello listers, My RITTERs are George and Emma RITTER/RUTTER who lived at 1741 Otsego Street and I can share other information that I have on their descendants. George was a brother (or some other possible relation) to Mathias who's son and or grandson William H. RUTTER was living with on Otsego Street. There were also 3 other brothers (or any other possible relation). 1. John RUTTER born about 1821 married to a Margaret. Their children were... John born 1838 Richard, born 1847 and married Henrietta MARKS Jeremiah born 1850 and married Margaret A. Calendar born 1851 and married Prudence NAPIER Charles born 1852 and married Mary MANARDIS Mary born 1855 Michael born 1857 married Catherine Bishop born 1859. 2. Joseph RITTER, born about 1826, married to an Emma. Their children were.. Emma born 1848 Eliza born 1850 Joseph born 1852 John born 1855 Mary born 1863 Susan born 1864 Catherine born 1870. 3. Bishop RUTTER born about 1828. I found a census image (which I can no longer access!) from the 1850 census for Southwark, Phila.,PA. It lists John and Sarah RITTER age 63 if I remember correctly. John was a ropemaker. I believe that this is the same John who lived with my George and would most likely be his father. George named his first daughter Sarah so I believe that Sarah would most likely be his mother's name. John was widowed in the 1860 census when he was living with my gg grandparents George and Emma RUTTER. John is listed as a junior in the earlier city directories. Even though it could have been typed just to distinguish between the 2 different RUTTERs, I'm guessing that he was a junior. I did find, at familysearch.org, a Mathias, born about 1825, that lived in Philadelphia and his parents are listed as John and Mary RITTER, living in the Penn District in Philadelphia. I strongly believe that this is my Mathias, father of William H. RITTER who later moved to Camden NJ. William H. RITTER's son William H. RITTER married Georgeanna SINK in Camden NJ. William was living with my gg grandparents, George and Emma RUTTER, at 1741 Otsego when they applied for marriage. Georgeanna SINK's sister Francis married George Washington RUTTER, son of Calendar RUTTER and Prudence NAPIER. Calendar RUTTER was the son of John RUTTER (born about 1821) and Margaret.
