    1. LEWIS of Pa and MD material to be sold
    2. This is a post to the Lewis list that maybe of interest to this List <G> the poster requests anyone interested to contact him [see end of post] this is such a treasure trove for the genealogists that will be lost, sad very sad. Eliz {I managed to post from the wrong addy *blush* so if you see this twice you will know} has a LARGE amount of materials, including pictures, regarding a LEWIS family out of Maryland and Pennsylvania. The survivors in this family do not want this material and wish to sell it. I believe, from my cousin's description, that this material would be of GREAT benefit to someone researching this family. Here is her letter describing the contents: ********* There is an old picture album filled with pictures and notations of who they are. The earliest picture is of Josephine Lewis 1824, Judge Ellis Lewis, Chief Justice of Pennsylvania, Annie Lewis Wylie, Daugter of Judge Lewis, Josephine Lewis, daughter of Judge Lewis, Mary Wolff Lewis w. Alfred E. Lewis, Rebekah F. Lewis-Bonham, Mr. & Mrs. Campbell (daugter of Ellis Lewis and son Frank Campbell & Son Ellis L. Campbell. Those are only a FEW. There is so much stuff related to the family. Stacks of deeds, wills, letters. One of the Lewis' was soldier in Revolution. There is a framed postcard of a historical house in Kennett Square, PA. that is notated was built by Ellis Lewis in 1727. Behind the postcard there is a letter saying that it was the home of the 1st Ellis Lewis who came to this country in 1724. The man who now owns it has deeds from William Penn to Ellis Lewis. The house has the initials "E L & M" crudely done in iron above the door (standing for Ellis Lewis & wife Mary.) We have 8 large oil portraits in huge gilded frames of various members of the Lewis family (I took pics of these). There is a note book (old) of family trees done, with newspaper articles about some of them (some obits). There is a huge family Bible of the Blackwell Family. I haven't even had a chance to look at it. It seems that one of the Lewis' married a Harsell who was from a wealthy socialite family of New York City. There is quite a bit of Harsell family info also. Daryl, I believe this is a gold mine. Also colonial paper currency, German Marks (there is a family tree totally in German). It is unbelievable! I will have to hold all of this out of the sale in order to catalog it. It will take hours and hours! The girls that we are doing this sale for are in 20's. Have lost their father , Alfred E. Lewis, III in 1997 and mother (Diann French Lewis) passed away in 2003. I asked them if they wanted to keep this stuff and they said that they didn't even know these people and didn't know what to do with it. I feel a huge responsibility to them to get as much as I can for all of this. I told Sarah, the youngest daughter, who I am dealing with that I would have to sell this family geneology separate and she is agreeable. When we agreed to do this sale I had no idea that this was in it. There were boxes and boxes of stuff packed up that she said they had drug around with them all over. They were originally from Maryland. Am sending pics of the oil portraits later (I want to put names with the portraits.) Looks as tho they were painted from photographs, because wehave photos that match some of the paintings. ************ Please, let me know if you would like to contact my cousin, who is the manager of the estate sale, and I will share her email address with you.
