    1. Death of Jacob L. McKlveen ~ born West Moreland County, Pennsylvania
    2. The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, April 4, 1907 JACOB L. was the second child in a family of twelve children born to HENRY and CATHERINE LOHR MCKLVEEN, both of Scotch-Irish ancestry.  The place of his birth was West Moreland County, Pennsylvania, and date May 12, 1837.  He died at his home in Chariton, Iowa, at noon on Easter Sunday, March 31st, 1907, aged 69 years, 10 months and 19 days.  With his wife he went to California, last year, for his health, and there suffered the most severe illness of his life, up to that time, recovering sufficiently to return home only to be mastered by heart trouble and lung complications, which resulted fatally.  His home going was peaceful. JACOB remained on his father's farm in Pennsylvania until his 20th year, when he learned the carpenter's trade, but staying in his home county until 1860, when in the spring of that year he removed to La Porte County, Indiana and worked at his trade until the spring of 1866, from there making his last move to Lucas County, Iowa, locating in Chariton, which has since been his home.  He was married to MISS HELEN FREDLER, February 12, 1863, in La Porte County, Indiana.  To this union five children were born, HENRY, the first died in infancy; BERTHA MCKLVEEN SCHREIBER, of Chariton; CATHARINE MCKLVEEN SMITH, of Chicago; MARGARET, who died in her 10th year and ROBBIE, who died in his third year.  Of his immediate family there remain his brothers -- DR. J.A. and SAMUEL, of Chariton, REV. WM. H., of Greene County, Pa.; CRAMER J., of Greensburg, Pa., and one sister, ISABELLE BITTNER, of West Morland County, Pa.  Soon after coming to Chariton, JACOB MCKLVEEN united with the Baptist Church in 1868, and was always a true, faithful and efficient member, and during many of these years was a worthy Deacon, also holding other important church offices.  He was a member of the K. of P. and I.O.O.F. Lodges. Up to the year of 1884, he followed carpentering in partnership with his brother SAMUEL, and were engaged in building and contract work.  They then formed the MCKLVEEN Lumber Co., he continuing in active business until 1901, when he retired owing to ill health, but still holding his interest in affairs.  He had accumulated a considerable holding of residence property in Chariton and was public spirited and full of local pride.  He was a good citizen, a true Christian, an obliging neighbor, loyal to his family and friends.  Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church at 2:00 o'clock, Tuesday, conducted by Rev. F.B. Palmer, his pastor.  The ceremonies at the cemetery were under the auspices of the order of odd Fellows.  Thus a life story ends and after earth's tributes have been paid those who mourn return to their affairs to await the inevitable call which comes to all mankind. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert December 8, 2004 iggy29@rnetinc.net http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm posted at this site with Nancee's permission
