Pauline Orben Bortner, 75, of Milford, Pa., died on Friday, December 17, 2004 at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, Pa. She was a waitress for Elmer's Restaurant for more than 18 years and was a visiting nurse for VNA Hospice. The daughter of Francis and Esther (Carpenter) McDonnell, she was born in Port Jervis, N.Y. on May 5, 1929. She was married to Richard Bortner. Survivors include her husband Richard; two sons and their families, George Orben Jr., his wife Helga and children Kristel and Christopher of Allentown, Pa. and Jeffrey Orben and his wife Judy and children Krystle Elliott, Danielle and James of Milford, Pa.; one daughter, Cynthia Johnson and her husband William and their family, Nicholas Smith, William and his wife Morgan, Allyson, Corrine and great-grandson Jakub Alexander; one stepdaughter, Darlene Krepps, her husband David and children, Jennifer, Darla, Matthew and Tracy Green and her husband Travis of Aspers, Pa.; three brothers, William McDonnell of Honesdale, Pa., Willard McDonnell of Middleburg, Pa. and Richard McDonnell of Hampton, N.J.; one sister, Esther Westbrook of Sanford, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bortner was predeceased by her first husband, George E. Orben Sr.; two sisters, Carol Larsen and Betty Muller and one brother Harry McDonnell. Graveside services took place in Milford Cemetery, Dingman Township, Pa. with the Rev. Benjamin Willis officiating. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Daniel Joseph Branning, 16, of Honesdale, Pa., died Friday, December 17, 2004 of injuries sustained in a car accident. Born in Honesdale, son of Todd and Diane Marie Wheeling Branning, Honesdale he was a sophomore at Honesdale High School. Todd was an outstanding athlete and was captain and quarterback of the Wayne Highlands Junior Varsity Football Team. He was also a member of the Varsity Football and Baseball Teams. In addition to his parents he is survived by a brother, Garritt E. Branning, Honesdale, a sister and brother-in-law Alisa and Bryan Mertine, Honesdale; maternal grandparents, Patricia Wheeling, Kingston, N.Y. and Joseph Charles Wheeling Sr., Joplin, Missouri; maternal stepgrandfather, Glen Hunter, Kingston, N.Y.; maternal great-grandmother, Loretta M. Wheeling, Shohola; paternal grandparents, Daniel and Marilyn Hicks Branning, Honesdale; paternal great-grandmother, Melva Hicks, Honesdale; several aunts, uncles and one nephew. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22 in the Central United Methodist Church, Honesdale, with the Rev. William Rushik officiating. Friends may visit at the Arthur A.
