Hello All, I am looking for information on a Mary Sloan (I am assuming this is her married name) b about 1785. Possibly Phila. Mary is found living in Norristown, on the 1850 and 1860 census. Well, at the least circumstantially I believe it may be the same Mary Sloan. On the 1850 she is living in a household with many different people and one other Sloan. James Sloan age 23. Thinking it may be a son. Name: Mary Sloan Age: 64 Estimated Birth Year: 1785 Birth Place: Philada Gender: Female Home in 1850 (City,County,State): Norristown Lower Ward, Montgomery, Pennsylvania Page: 282 Roll: M432_800 On the 1860 she is in the household of WIlliam S Yocum and wife Amanda. 1860 Norristown,Montgomery Co., PA WIlliam S YOCUM 59 Leather Store PA Amanda " 44 " Elizabeth " 20 " WIliam " 13 " Margaret " 17 " Isaac " 16 " Jesse BATCHELDER 24 laborer " Mary " 18 " Mary SLOAN 68 " On a hunch that possibly she may be Amanda's mother I checked earlier census and came up with a Mary Sloan in Upper Merion in 1840 alone . I was looking particularly there in Upper merion because this is where William S Yocum son of Isaac Yocum and Mary Margaret Yocum were from before moving to Norristown. There is an Isaac Yocum on the same page of the 1840 census as Mary Sloan.Too much to ignore. Name: Sloan, Mary Township: Upper Merion County: Montgomery State: Pennsylvania Year: 1840 Roll: M704_478 Page: 314 Image: 342 Age between 40-50 I checked 1830 and came up with one Sloan in Upper merion ...a James Sloan. Just a coincidence that the Mary is with a James in Norristown?? As I say this is all a hunch and circumstantial but if anyone has any information on this Mary or James I would be most interested. Best looking lead I have found so far as to Amanda's maiden name.
