To Lorine Schulze - Please let me know if you come across any ship that came to anywhere in Pennsylvania (probably either to Philly or to the vicinity of Erie) across Lake Erie from Canada in the period between 1800 and 1812. I am looking for anyone named JACKSON who may have made such a trip. Such people may have been trying to get away from the British in Canada at the onset of the War of 1812. Thanks! Bob Wilson Stamford, CT > Hi Bob It is extremely unlikely that you will find a record of passengers on those Great Lakes crossings in early 1800. There was no mandate to archive manifests at that time. There are ships lists going to PA but those are for ships sailing across the Ocean. You could check some of the Great Lakes Shipping websites for newspaper accounts but don't get your hopes up. Even if you find an account of a passage, it's not likely you'll find a list of passengers unless something extraordinary happened to them. Try http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/shiplinks.shtml for links to sites that might be of help to you. Look for GREAT LAKES SHIPPING on that page.
