Hello everyone, I think I'm finally pulling my early South Philadelphia RUTTER/RITTERs together and going back another generation!!!! Maybe this will connect me with one of the RUTTER or RITTER trees that are so well put together so far such as Thomas RUTTER and POTTS families of Colebrookdale or the 4 RITTER brothers from Oley, PA who eventually also lived in Colebrookdale if I remember correctly. I have a feeling that the RITTER brothers' families and Thomas RUTTER's families connect along the way somewhere in these lines anyway. Here are the Southwark RUTTERs that I put together. Can you all follow me for a few minutes here please? I'm starting with census info from 1830 and working my way back to 1790. East Southwark 1830 all on same page... Mary RUTTER - one female age 60-70 one male in home age 30-40 Henry RUTTER - one male age 40-50 one male under 5, one male 5-10, one male 10-15, one female age 40-50, one female age 20-30, two females ages 15-20, one female age 10-15, one femmale age 5-10 and one female under 5. also a Mary STILLWAGON - one female age 30-40 and one female age 10-15 also on this page. On another page... John RUTTER- three males under age 5, two males age 5-10, one male age 10-15, one male age 30-40, one female age 10-15, one female age 30-40. This must be my ggg grandparents, parents of George born about 1830 and married to Emma. The ages match and so do the neighbors and relatives to the family. Other names on this page are... Jacob and Bishop STINSMAN Might this be where the name Bishop comes from in the John RUTTER and Margaret GOUGH family? John and Margaret had a son Callender who married Prudence NAPIER so I'm sending this to the NAPIER list also. Conrad and George MARKER Adam ALBURGER ----------- ----------------------------------------------------- 1820 All in Southwark on the same page... John RUTTER - one male age 16-26, one male age 45 and up, one female age 16-26, one female age 45 and up. Henry RUTTER - two males under age 10, two males age 26-45, three females under the age of 10, two females age 10-16, two females age 26-45. At the very bottom of another page is... Mathias RUTTER - one male age 10-16, three males age 16-26, one male age 26-45, one female age 10-16, one female age 16-26, one female age 45 and up. On the same page is Charles STOLL. On the very next page is... John RUTTER- two males under age 10, one male age 26-45, two female under age 10, one female age 26-45. (ggg grandparents) Peter and Jacob STINCHMAN, another spelling for STINSMAN are listed on either side of John RUTTER. Peter RIBEL, another spelling for RIVEL/RIVAL, and Mary and George MARKER are all on this same page as well. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- So far I'm thinking that John, Henry and Mathias were brothers and their parents were John Rutter and Mary listed as head of household in 1830. 1810 Census All East Southwark Henry RUTTER - four males under age 10, one male age 26-44, two females age 10-15, one female age 45 and over. Also on same page Hannah and George RIVEL/RIVELL On the very next page enumerated one visit after the other... John RUTTER - seven males under the age of 10, two males age 10-15, one male age 26-44, one female under age 10, one female age 10-15, one female age 16-25, and one female age 45 and over. Henry RUTTER - four males under age 10, one male age 26-44, two females age 10-15, one female age 26-44. HMMMM why enumerated twice or could 2 Henry's had the same exact set of children in their homes. Maybe they owned both properties. On the same page are Jacob STENSMAN (STINSMAN), Peter REVEL (RIVEL), Godfrey MARKER. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- 1800 census All Southwark At the very bottom of the page is... John RUTTER - On the top of the very next page is George REBEL (RIVEL???) ----------------------------------------------------------- 1790 census Southwark John RUTTER directly below him Adam RIPPLE (RIVEL???)- --------------------------------------------------------------- So now I will look into possible brothers John, Henry and Mathias RUTTER all born sometime between 1770 and 1795 who's parents' names are possibly John RUTTER and Mary who lived in the Southwark District of Philadelphia all the way back to the 1790 census. Does anyone know if I might be on the right track and if so might anyone have any other info to share?? I'd love to hear from anyone with a possible connection or info. Good luck all, Ella
