If you have an Ancestery.com membership you can get the info from the Social Security Death Index a lot of times. The only bad thing about that is if there are more than one person with the same name....unless you know at least part of the date or SS # it is hard to tell if you have the right person or not. I try to match them up with any obits if possible. Or if I find an obit....then I try to find the exact date.
