Janet, about the book you mentioned, "Adoption Agencies, Orphanages and Maternity Homes: an Historical Directory" written by Reg Niles, what area does it cover? Is it only Penna, Western Pa or nationwide? And, may I ask, where did you get it? I have an orphanage to track down in Virginia. I know my mother and her brother were there in 1925 - 26 but the people who ran it (an order of nuns) have no record of girls. My great grand-mother was also in one in Baltimore in 1906. Again, the nuns say they have no record of girls ever being cared for there. Well, the 5 women involved couldn't agree on the time of day and yet they all agreed on the name and the place so I want to try other avenues. If you could post the publisher and where you got it, I'll see if I can find a copy to buy. Thank you so much for posting.
