    1. [PA] Alexander Rae
    2. Can anyone help me with more information about this family, please. Indeed are there any descendants out there, looking to find out about the Scottish connection? Alexander is the eldest brother of my great grandfather William Rae. Alexander emigrated from Scotland to USA, while a younger brother Andrew and a sister Betsy emigrated to Australia. The other families stayed in Scotland [at least for that generation]. This is what I have on Alexander Alexander, born 8 May 1860 in Falkirk Parish - father James Rae, coalminer, informant, mother Elizabeth nee Binnie [ BC ref 1860/ Falkirk/132] He was in the 1881 Scottish census with the family, but married Andrina Waldie 21 October 1881, in Slamanan [sic], county of Stirling, after banns, according to the forms of the Church of Scotland; both signed; he, bachelor, 21, usual residence Slamanan: she 18, domestic servant; Usual residence,Slamanan; father Andrew Waldie, mother Margaret nee Jamieson, deceased. {MC ref 1881/Slamanan/ 41] Andrina was born 24 April 1863, Carriden, West Lothian Their first child James Smith Rae was born 2 September 1882 in Binnend, Burntisland. Alexander's occupation is given as Shaleminer. [BC 1882/ Burntisland/ 137] [Presumably in the area near the Binn Hill] The second child was Margaret Jamieson Rae, born 21 June 1884 in Burntisland. He is still a shaleminer. [BC 1884/ Burntisland/ 113] The third child is Bethia Binnie Rae, born on 5th June, 1887 in Old Town, Broxburn, Uphall. Alexander is a shaleminer. [BC 1887/Uphall/ 174] 1930 USA census they state 1888 as their year of immigration to USA. According to the 1910 census, Andrina had had 10 children, of whom 7 were living Home in 1910 was North Union TWP 1-PCT, Fayette, Pennslyvania [Series T624; Roll 1345; Part 2; Page 131A - on 22 & 25 April [attached file copy] On this we can see that all the scottish born children have flown the nest. and there is Alexander and William, aged 12 and 10 and Wlisabeth and Christina, aged 19 and 9., all born in PA; together with a grandson Alexander Connor who is 1. Alex senior is a coal miner and Elisabeth a servant. 1920 census: Frazer, Allegheny, PA; oage 10B, Roll T625_1512 oage 10 BED: 115 Alexander is now a farmer. 1930 census:Brownsville, Fayette, PA; Roll T626_2039, Enum. Dis 3, Sheet 13B. William is a coal miner and Andrina is working in a hospital. I have not got either death; where they are buried, or anything about the children born in USA There is a WW1 draft registration card for a Alexander Rae Jr; born 1895 PA, USA He is living in Allegheny Co PA and is married; occupation coalminer. Roll 1852393; Draft Board 15. I think it is fair to assume that this is Alex's son Alex! I also have a note of James S Rae who married a Gerogina [1884-1964]; who had a son Robert P Rae {who was born Edna, PA , 8 July 1978 and who died 11 April 1978}; and who was killed in a mining accident in 1928. This was from an Ancestry notice board.
