The Blooms, as a class, are worthy citiz ens; almost all farmers, and are the largest or one of the largest families in Clearfield county. William Bloom, Sr., was born in Germany, in 1752 and emigrated to this country at an uncertain time, reaching Clearfield county in 1801. Previous to this he had been in the State of New Jersey, also in Centre county, Pa. During the Revolutionary War he served for some time in the ranks. In 1778 he married Mary Metter, who was born in 1754. The pioneer Bloom came to Clearfield county alone, and settled one mile up the river from Curwensyule. Pike township is the stronghold of the Blooms. Probably two-thirds of the family are located here. --------------------------------------- This is from Thomas Weaver Tree ancestry. PA 9/15/1752 on the ship "Two Brothers", Thomas Arnott-Commander. Family settled in Alexandria Township Huntington County New Jersey. He moved from NJ about 1785 to Potter Township Cumberland County, PA (then but now in Center County). His name was in the assors list in Potter Township in 1801. In that year he completed his removal to what became Pike Township Clearfield County, having previously brought some of his older children to start his improvements. During the Revolutionary War he served for some time in the ranks but have no means of ascertaining the length of time. Place of his settlement in Clearfield County is within the limits of the Borough of Curwensville, PA and known as the Irvin farm. Later moved to a tract of land So of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River near the present village of Bloomington. His grave has a DAR marker, now rusty, indicating long exposure to weather. The above is the story revised and enlarged as found in "Aldrich's Clearfield County" 1887 pages 58 & 631. Other references to the services of William Bloom in the Revolutionary War are found in "Commemoratial Biographical Record of Central PA" covering Centre, Clearfield, Jefferson and Clarion Counties, Beers, Chicago IL 1898 on pages 681, 727, 753, 889, 942, 1005, 1623. Also 20th Century History of Clearfield Co. by Swoope 1911, pages 485 and 750. Also in history of Northumberland Co. PA. In 1904 Clearfield Co celebrated its Centennial. A number of things pertaining to the people of the early days were exhibited. It is said that amoung them was a paper showing the discharge of William Bloom from the Revolutionary Army. Efforts to locate this paper have not been successful. >From another unknown ancestry.com tree William Bloom, Sr. was born, 28 Feb 1752 in Neuwied, Rhine Va, Wurtenburg, Germany. Died, 4 May 1828, in Clearfield Co., PA. Confirmation: 19 May 1771, in GRCh Alexandria, Hunterdon Co., NJ (Parish Register GRC, p. 38). Burial: May 1828, in McClure Cemetary, Clearfield Co., PA. Immigration: 15 Sep 1752, in Wurtenburg, Germany (aboard ship Two Brothers, Rotterdam to Philadelphia). Occupation: Farmer. William Bloom Sr. was an infant at the time his parents emigrated to America. While living in New Jersey. A story handed down by tradition is 'when William was called to the military service, two men came to notify him. While he was getting his things together to go with them, his wife cast bullets for his muzzle loading gun and after he left, she went to the field to continue the plowing with an oxen team", this was often told by James Ross Caldwell, his grand-son. William and his family removed from New Jersey about 1785 to Potter Township, Cumberland Co., Pa. (now Centre Co.). He is listed on the assessors list for Potter Twp. in 1801. He then removed to Pike Twp., Clearfield Co. Another tradition associated with William Bloom, is that when he came to Clearfield Co. it was initially in the late fall of the year and he came with John, Elizabeth and Benjamin. They built a cabin on a tract that is now known as the Irwin Farm. William then went back to Centre Co. to get the remainder of his family but got snowed in. The cabin had a Bear skin for a door. Some indians came along during the winter, found the three youngsters and fed them throughout the winter. Connie
