Bev: Most every one researching early PA marriages would like them however no public records existed prior to about 1885 (some counties). No statewide keeping till 1906. There is a statewide index for the years 1852-1854 which enumerates births, deaths and marriages. There's a copy on microfilm in the Pennsylvania Room of the Carnegie Library here in Pittsburgh and probably elsewhere. It runs county by county. I don't know the history how it came to be created. Bev, These years are also the most difficult for me to find dates. They may have lived on the coast for some years before moving to Lehigh Valley. You may have to check records in CT MA or NY for instance. There is an extensive Barbour Collection in CT for instance that give families and children and birth death dates. There may be similar in NJ and Eastern PA by that time. Go to the county web pages as many have church records. Many Lutheran records go back to church origin in Eastern PA. Contact the Lehigh Co. Historical Society or Genealogical Society or look for their web pages.
