Hi List Member's I have a question about a newspaper clipping that I have found. In a box of things there was an envelope that contained two very old and folded up newspaper pages. They are so fragile looking, I and my cousin are afraid that if we try and open them up all the way, they might disintegrate. However, we were able to carefully peek in the folds enough to see the titles of the newspapers and dates: The Times, Wednesday October 3, 1798, price: six pence (guess this is from England?) Philadelphia, Public Ledger, Volume 1, number 1, Friday Morning March 25, 1836, price: one cent We have no idea what the significance of these newspapers is. We are guessing there is something printed in each of them that relates to our family, but the only way we're going to know is if we can somehow open them up and read them without destroying them. Does anybody know of a safe way to try to do this, or does anybody know of an organization we might be able to take them to that would know how to unfold them and not destroy them? Thanks in advance for any and all help that can be given. God bless Diane power2000@pstel.net
Diane, Call the PA State Archives in West Chester, PA I am sure they have the means to help. I know Maryland has the means to preserve these types of articles.
