Now that should spark much interest of the law, that only Citizens of the United States may keep weapons in their homes. Wonder where that is hidden in our laws of today. And if that is the procedure in our law enforcement across the Country? Thanks for the information. In a message dated 6/17/2008 11:54:05 A.M. J. LEITZ with the Northwestern Casket Company of Minneapolis is at the Merchants. (Hotel) BISMARK TRIBUNE May 11, 1887 F. J. LEITZ of Minneapolis is at the Sheridan Then there was mention of an Undertakers Convention, again, the name F. J. Leitz. It appears that some of the LEITZ sons traveled to surrounding states from Minnesota and stayed at hotels while they were on business for the Northwestern Casket Company in Minneapolis. And from the DULUTH NEWS TRIBUNE July 22, 1910 An obituary entitled DULUTH PIONEER DIES SUDDENLY AT SEATTLE Unable to stand the rigors of a journey from Duluth To Seattle...Mrs. Magdolene WELLAND, 73 years old, and for 48 years a resident of Duluth who had gone to visit her daughter in Seattle died there on Tuesday due to the extreme heat. Mrs. Wieland (note spelling difference) left Duluth only a week before to visit her daughter, Mrs. William LEITZ of Seattle. She was accompanied by Mrs. J. F. SCHLEUNES, another daughter, residing at 1625 East Fourth St, Duluth where Mrs. WIELAND also made her home. Mrs. Wieland is also survived by a third daughter, Mrs. J. J. OEDER of Portland, OREGON, AND TWO SONS, Albert H. and Gustave A. Wieland, both of Duluth. Interment will take place in Duluth. And the final information that seemed rather possible based on William Leitz (born 1838 in Germany) son Frederick's birthplace shown as Ohio in the 1880 Census from Jermyn, Lackawanna Co, PA. I found this census information - >From the 1860 OHIO, Wyandot Co, Salem Twp, Upper Sandusky LEITZ, John P. 46 Born Baden (as were all the family below) LEITZ, Elisabeth 43 LEITZ, William 22 (born 1838) LEITZ, Phillip 20 LEITZ, Augustus 13 LEITZ, Catherine 11 The various census years and locations show that there were many LEITZ families, nearly all from Germany. So finding your correct family will be a difficult challenge. It seems to me that your best clues are the family occupation of casket painters, superintendent Of Northwestern Casket Company, Minneapolis and possibly getting a copy of the Civil War Invalid and Widow's Pension Application Files from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in Washington, DC. (You can find them online And also order a copy of the Pension files online by using a credit card.) Hopefully you will find something in this post that will be of assistance to you in your research. Thanks to the one response, from 'Grafhaus' 1982, I got to my request for evidence that a distant relation had actually made some mark in PA, I was pleased and thankful to learn of the evidence he/she had unearthed. . I subsequently found an item about George on page 75 of 'History of Chester County 1881 - Gilbert Cope. It seems that George was ordered to pay a Richard Crosby £18 for compensation for an unnamed offence against him. This fine was imposed by The Peace makers. I did not find out know whether he actually paid it - I reckon this would be about half a million pounds in today's money and as far as I can see Mr Crosby did not leave a fortune in his will so he either spent the cash or never got it. As a possible 'heir' to George's probable non payment, a smart lawyer for the Crosby's heirs may seek settlement from me and my siblings! Any more sightings will be gratefully received.

Can anyone help me with more information about this family, please. Indeed are there any descendants out there, looking to find out about the Scottish connection? Alexander is the eldest brother of my great grandfather William Rae. Alexander emigrated from Scotland to USA, while a younger brother Andrew and a sister Betsy emigrated to Australia. The other families stayed in Scotland [at least for that generation]. This is what I have on Alexander Alexander, born 8 May 1860 in Falkirk Parish - father James Rae, coalminer, informant, mother Elizabeth nee Binnie [ BC ref 1860/ Falkirk/132] He was in the 1881 Scottish census with the family, but married Andrina Waldie 21 October 1881, in Slamanan [sic], county of Stirling, after banns, according to the forms of the Church of Scotland; both signed; he, bachelor, 21, usual residence Slamanan: she 18, domestic servant; Usual residence,Slamanan; father Andrew Waldie, mother Margaret nee Jamieson, deceased. {MC ref 1881/Slamanan/ 41] Andrina was born 24 April 1863, Carriden, West Lothian Their first child James Smith Rae was born 2 September 1882 in Binnend, Burntisland. Alexander's occupation is given as Shaleminer. [BC 1882/ Burntisland/ 137] [Presumably in the area near the Binn Hill] The second child was Margaret Jamieson Rae, born 21 June 1884 in Burntisland. He is still a shaleminer. [BC 1884/ Burntisland/ 113] The third child is Bethia Binnie Rae, born on 5th June, 1887 in Old Town, Broxburn, Uphall. Alexander is a shaleminer. [BC 1887/Uphall/ 174] 1930 USA census they state 1888 as their year of immigration to USA. According to the 1910 census, Andrina had had 10 children, of whom 7 were living Home in 1910 was North Union TWP 1-PCT, Fayette, Pennslyvania [Series T624; Roll 1345; Part 2; Page 131A - on 22 & 25 April [attached file copy] On this we can see that all the scottish born children have flown the nest. and there is Alexander and William, aged 12 and 10 and Wlisabeth and Christina, aged 19 and 9., all born in PA; together with a grandson Alexander Connor who is 1. Alex senior is a coal miner and Elisabeth a servant. 1920 census: Frazer, Allegheny, PA; oage 10B, Roll T625_1512 oage 10 BED: 115 Alexander is now a farmer. 1930 census:Brownsville, Fayette, PA; Roll T626_2039, Enum. Dis 3, Sheet 13B. William is a coal miner and Andrina is working in a hospital. I have not got either death; where they are buried, or anything about the children born in USA There is a WW1 draft registration card for a Alexander Rae Jr; born 1895 PA, USA He is living in Allegheny Co PA and is married; occupation coalminer. Roll 1852393; Draft Board 15. I think it is fair to assume that this is Alex's son Alex! I also have a note of James S Rae who married a Gerogina [1884-1964]; who had a son Robert P Rae {who was born Edna, PA , 8 July 1978 and who died 11 April 1978}; and who was killed in a mining accident in 1928. This was from an Ancestry notice board. Dear Paula, I'm not an expert on the Pickens family however I know the following. General Andrew Pickens was born in Faxton or Paxton, PA in Bucks Co., PA. His family moved and resided in old Augusta County, VA for some time. They then moved before the Revolutionary War to the Waxhaws (Lancaster Co., SC) in SC. After the RW General Andrew Pickens built a home called Hopewell (1784/5) in what is now Clemson University property where he lived for a time before moving again to Tamassee where he died. Hi There was one other listing in 1860 for a William HUSTON, age 23/born PA/occupation, Brick Mason. He is living in the West Ward of Washington with a family by the name of John McMILLEN, also a mason. Have you thought about contacting Washington Cemetery for the burial information on your lost soul? I think they will provide, but don't know if a fee is involved. If there is a connection please let us know what that might be. If the post doesn't pertain to Pennsylvania, then it doesn't belong on this list. Thanks for your clarification in this matter.
