Unfortunately the records for ships passenger lists to Canada before 1925 are not indexed. To find a passenger you will need to know an exact date of arrival. There is no easy way to search Canadian arrival records for this unindexed period other than reading microfilm The National Archives of Canada (NAC) holds immigration records from 1865 to 1935. Ships are on the reel, in order of arrival. You can borrow this reel on Inter Library Loan [ILL]. These microfilms contain arrivals from all ports If you want to order filmed passenger lists (remember they aren't indexed!), a list of NAC microfilm numbers for passenger lists to Canada 1865-1922 can be found at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/filmnos_can1865.shtml If you want to try your luck searching transcribed ships passenger lists online, passenger lists for Ships to Canada after 1865 are freely available at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tocanp05.shtml You can also try TheShipsList.com at http://www.theshipslist.com/ They have been indexing arrivals from Newspapers and have many passenger lists online There are search engines to search online free databases on multiple websites for ships to Canada at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/search_shipscanada.shtml Good luck! Hi everyone I've just finished putting more ships online on Olive Tree Genealogy for the year 1854 from the J & J Cooke Shipping Agents Records. These are the Passenger Books of J & J Cooke, Shipping Agents with sailings from Londonderry to Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Quebec, St. John, New Brunswick and New Orleans Louisiana from 1847 to 1871 The index to the ships I have online so far from JJ Cooke Records is at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/jjcooke.shtml To go directly to the new ships, use the links below: http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/jj_mauritius54-qu.shtml Mauritius Ireland to Quebec 1854 http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/jj_maryann54-stj2.shtml Mary Ann First Journey Ireland to St. John, New Brunwsick 1854 http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/jj_maryann54-stj.shtml Mary Ann Second Journey Ireland to St. John, New Brunwsick 1854 These lists to Canada (above) help to fill in the pre-1865 unarchived years for Passenger Lists to Canada, so be sure to have a look if you think your ancestors may have gone that route. Many USA destined passengers sailed by way of a Canadian port as it was much cheaper. I also added the following ships to Pennsylvania, from the JJ Cooke Shipping Records: http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/jj_superior54-pa.shtml Superior Ireland to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1854 http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/jj_edward54-pa.shtml Edward Ireland to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1854 http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/jj_garland54-pa.shtml Garland Ireland to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1854 http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/jj_libuina54-pa.shtml Libuina Ireland to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1854 http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/jj_argentinus54- pa.shtml Argentinus Ireland to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1854 (This is a 2 line URL, you can't click on it. You have to copy and paste BOTH lines into your web browser) I also time last week making some big changes on my Ships Passenger Lists section. The navigation system is different now, and hopefully easier for you to use. Take your time and check it out, it requires more clicking through the website, but should be less confusing for visitors I also created pages for Ships Passenger Lists to Quebec http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/qu_ships.shtml Ships Passenger Lists to New Brunswick http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/nb_ships.shtml and Ships Passenger Lists to Nova Scotia http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/ns_ships.shtml As always, the secret to successful hunting on Olive Tree Genealogy pages is to slow down. :-) 3 Steps to Finding an Ancestor 1. Let each page load completely BEFORE you click on a choice 2. Scroll DOWN each page, take a quick look to see what is offered BEFORE you click on a choice 3. Start at the top again. Read the page! Don't just click on the first thing you see :-) I know how impatient and eager we all are to find that ancestor *but* if you click too fast you may not know what you are clicking on. S L O W down, it's a big site you can't see it all in one day. 4. All databases on all my sites are F R E E. There is never a charge to view the thousands of databases you will find on Olive Tree or my other sites. Curious what other sites I created and maintain? It's a long list! But here goes..... I located a Fredrich Korner arrived Baltimore Aug 15 1853 from departure point Bremen aboard the ship Arnold Boninger. However, he was only 20, and the one you are asking for would have been about 33, if born in 1818. If he brought his wife/children with him, it would help to know their names. I was unable to locate my great great grandfather on the lists until I used one of the children's names and found them, yet the whole family was on the passenger list together. I've never been able to bring up his name, even as shown on the lists, but must use a child's name. Perhaps they accidentally overlooked entering his name in the database for the search. Also, it helps to know what part of "Germany" he was from. Germany didn't exist at the time. Most immigrants were listed as from the duchy, kingdom or whatever, where they had lived. My family was from the Kingdom of Hannover, and was never listed as from Germany. Note the double n in Hannover. It makes a difference. Another problem is what name he used to board the ship. Do you know whether he used his actual first name or a middle one by which he was called (the Rufname). My gggrandfather's name was Heinrich Frederich August Koelle, but was listed on the passenger list as "Fredr. Kolle" with the umlaut. (Input in English: Koelle.) His son whose name I used, was listed under his Rufname, third in his list of names. Germans are often hard to find! Susan in Louisiana
