Dorothy St Francis was founded in 1843. Looking at their history on their web site It does not list any previous name of the school. you might want to email then and asked that question. Information on St. Philomena from http://www.diopitt.org/archives/St.%20Philomena%20Photos.htm hopes this helps Bill St. Philomena Church, Strip District St. Philomena was founded in 1839, the first German ethnic parish in the diocese. The church was first located in the Strip District of Pittsburgh. Among the priests who served at St. Philomena were St. John Neumann and Blessed Francis Seelos. The cornerstone of the church was laid on May 26, 1842 and the completed church was dedicated on October 4, 1846. Due to the growing commercialization of the Strip District over time, the parish was no longer viable in its original location. On April 15, 1922, the church was sold to the Pennsylvania Railroad. The last Mass held in St. Philomena in the Strip District on November 16, 1925. St. Philomena was then relocated in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh. The first Mass was held in the new St. Philomena occurred on June 4, 1922. The church served the community for 70 years, but eventually, population loss in the city led to the closing of the parish. As part of the Diocesan reorganization and revitalization, St. Philomena closed in 1993 and the church was sold shortly afterwards. ----- Original Message ----- From: <JBC1019@aol.com> To: <PENNSYLVANIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 08, 2004 4:21 PM Subject: Re: [PA] Where is? > Thanks Bill. Thanks for the information! No wonder its so hard to find out anything about a Margaret Barnes, I didnt realize there was that many Barnes families in PA. I know that there are some Barnes that came also from MD. Those" Barnes " have been connected to the Wades since 1650, but I have know idea if these are the right Barnes. I have been looking into that connection also. Our Wades side of the family go back to Zachary Wade b.1627 in England. d.1678 Port Tobacco,Charles Co.MD. I appreciate the data about Frank Cronk. I had no idea that my grandfather could have had more brothers and sisters. I know that my mother has never mentioned any, but she was only 8 months old when Walter died. Thanks so much for your help, Debra. Mdre007@aol.com
Thanks Bill. Could that have been in an earlier time Pennsylvania Catholic College? I have conflicting information on John C. Habermacher. One obit says he attended Philomena Parochial School in Pittsburgh, another says he attended school in Harris County, TX. Another does not mention either of these school but says he attended Pennsylvania Catholic College before returning to Texas in 1873. Our dear ancestors, they did leave a trail to confuse us. Dorothy

Hi! Im new to this mailing list. Im looking for any family that could be related to a Frank Sherman Cronk b.1873 d.1957.He was married to Dora Belle Spielman b.1875 and d.1958. Thank you so much for writing. You are the first person with whom I have spoken that knew who Isaac was. The only other thing I have was from the Falls Mtg. in 1771 where it was stated Isaac Janney married a non member. I believe I got that info from Hinshaw's work. Perhaps he was not exspelled from the Quaker Religion after all. I do find he and Hannah in Floyd and Franklin, Counties, VA. I could tell you the names of all their children if I can put my genealogy back together. I had all my genealogy in a heavy cardboard file. We had painters coming in so they carried all my boxes of files to the garage. Sometime after they had completed the job, I went to the garage to bring in the card files. Not only had they dropped two of my boxes, the files were dirty and had blown all over the garage floor as well as some had blown out of the garage all over our back yard. After they finished we went to the garage and found the mess. They denied they had done it, but. no one else was here except my husband and I. When Isaac's father, Wiliam died, his father had left his clothing to Isaac as well as other items. I never found any Quaker Meetings in the area in which they lived in Va. If you ever come across any other info from the Biles side of the family I would be interested in that as well. Thank you so much for writing. Ginnypin@aol.com
I'm not sure to be honest. The earliest ancestor for Tex that I could find was a John RITTER that was born in PA or VA about 1715. If anyone knows I'd love to hear it. Ella
