    3. Hi, Sandy: I found the following info on Heritage Quest: In the 1800 census, I found 1 Sloop household in PA (there's one other in North Carolina): Charles Sloop, located in Smiths, Washington Co., PA. In the 1810 census, I found 2 Sloop households in PA (plus 3 in NC & 1 in KY): Charles Sloop, in Smiths, Washington Co., PA & Philip Sloop, in Plumstead Twp., Bucks Co., PA In the 1820 census...1 Sloop household in PA (4 in NC; 2 in KY): Charles Sloop, located in Smiths, Washington Co., PA. Unfortunately, the 1790-1840 census listings provide only the name of the head of household and ages of those in the household... The Philip Sloop household listing shows 4 boys under 10 yo, 1 male 26-44 yo, & 1 female 26-44 yo. I found a Hiram Sloop, age 54, in the 1860 Hamilton Co., Ohio census. Could this be your Hiram? 1860 - 2-WD Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH - 6/6/1860 Hiram Sloop - 54 - m - barkeeper - Scotland Anna - 53 - f - Maryland Hiram - 17 - m - Cinti Ohio Emma - 12 - f - New York Hope there's something helpful here... 3. I am trying to find the parents of my ggrandfather Hiram Sloop b. 1 Jan 1806 Philadelphia PA (according to family history). I believe he may have had a brother Samuel b. 1801 and at least one sister, name unknown who's married name was Lape. The family moved to Ohio and is found around 1830 in Hamilton Co. I was told they were "Pennsylvania Dutch" when growing up. Any information on the parents of Hiram very much appreciated. Sandy California

    3. Hi, Sharon, I found a family in PA with mother Elizabeth and also a Charles and a Henry. Problem is, their ages are a bit different from what you gave. But they're close. Elizabeth is 35, Charles is 8 and Henry is 1. There is also Amandas, 15, Sarah, 13, Samuel, 6, Mary Ann, 3, Rebecca, 74. And a laborer names William Bachman, 19. The head of house is Elias, aged 40. They live in Upper Milford, Lehigh, PA. He's a farmer, not a miner. There were a couple of other Charles Diehls, about age two or three like you wanted, but the mother's name didn't match. Let me know if this one seems like yours. 1. Ellis Island
    2. The History Channel did a wonderful series on Ellis Island - hosted by Mandy Pitankin. Check to see if it repeats in your area or see if the library has a copy. Every library and genealogy club should have one! Or, plunk down $22.46 and get it from Amazon.com. (I did!) This film--produced for and first broadcast on the History Channel--documents in full detail the life of the way station. What started out as a modest outpost became a monumental processing center where, during its 62-year history, nearly 12 million people were poked, prodded, tested, and graded to see if they were fit for citizenship.

    2. Hi Eliz Many thanks for the details which you sent to me. Yes I am pretty sure these are my people. Its very kind of you to take the trouble to send me these details and I shall be ringing my uncle later today to tell him these details. I'm sure he will be pleased to find out he had cousins which he didn't know about. I am going to request the marriage certificate for Albert and Elva, just to confirm that these are the correct people. Once again, Many thanks. Best wishes Pat in England.
