    3. Hi, Catherine: Do you know when and where each of these family members were born and died? This information will help to narrow a search of census material. 3. Good day Catherine, If you will check with your local Family History Center (at an LDS church) and see if they have the complete index to the 1880 census, and if they do, either go or ask someone to check on the two aunts you are researching. If the FHC does not have the complete index for the USA, repost and I will try next week when I go to my local FHC. Happy hunting for those ancestors. The Genealogy Nut Mary Ellen

    2. I see what happened with my email to the list with a correction of the website. I need to send it in plain text and my autolinks won't turn into a mess. Try this... http://ftp.rootsweb.com/ 1. Click on pub 2. Click on usgenweb 3. Click on the abbreviated state that you would like to go to 4. Click on the county 5. Then click on the file that you wish to see. I noticed that there were not wills for every county but there are many informative links to open and look into. TIP!!!! Read through everything slowly and look for mispelled names. Many names have been spelled the way they sounded or the way that they appeared to be written which could be completely different than the spelling you are accustomed to. TIP!!! Look at the names of witnesses in the wills because the witness, I found anyway, always seemed to be in a family that was or will be found marrying into that person's family. That should definitely do it this time around. I am so sorry everyone! Good luck all, Ella

    1. types of woman in census ditto for man
    2. Linda, Yes there were endentured people, of all nationalities. If a father died a girl was endentured out so to speak to learn to care for someone else children if old enough. They became housekeepers, maids etc. Boys were endentured the same way to learn a profession. To become independent when an adult. Some people whom came to USA were endentured when they arrived. Due to cost of passage to US . Both male and female and child. Susi

    3. I take it your question about "types of females" is in reference to 19th C. census data. At that date, in addition to free white females, there were free black females and there were indentured black females. On account of an occasional white female who had been indentured for her passage from Europe, you may also come across early 19th Century census data showing indentured white females. I'm hoping that perhaps this information about Flickingers will be appropriate and helpful. There was a sizeable clan of Flickingers living in Juniata Co. in the 19th-20th Centuries, perhaps even earlier. There is a rather lengthy Flickinger Family History written about those Flickingers. I have used a copy of it in the Juniata Co. Historical Society Library, 498 Jefferson St., Suite B, Mifflintown PA 17059-1424, E-mail JunCoHis@tricountyi.net . I feel quite certain this Flickinger history was microfilmed and is held by the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and therefore it is therefore available on loan at any local LDS Family History Center. If there is an LDS Family History Center near you it will be listed in the phone book as Church Of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints. I Googled a search for "Flickinger Family History" and came up with this URL: http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=BookList&dbid=18253&ti=0&r=0 Google also turned up another URL: http://www.bookfinder.com/dir/i/Flickinger_Family_History/0740403761/ I do not know if either of these histories is the one I used in Juniata Co., but they both have the same title. Hope you find something useful from this. Nelson R. 3. Hi, Linda: The way I understand these census pages is that a person (male or female) who is free and not white would be noted under "other free persons" and a person (male or female) who is not free would be noted under "slaves." This information is from an 1800 census page. The issue of one being "free" or a slave was last noted in the 1840 census. If you'd like to provide your gggrandmother's name, birth year & place, death year & place, family names...I'm sure there are quite a number of people on this mailing list that would try to help you. I found this site: http://www.cdc.gov/nchstp/tb/notes/TBN_1_00/TBN2000Ruggiero.htm that mentions: "The TB sanatorium movement, which was started in Germany by Dr. Hermann Brehmeris in the 1850s, did not take hold in the United States until after 1884. Edward Livingston Trudeau, a physician who recovered from TB disease, started a sanatorium in Saranac Lake, New York, based on the European model of strict supervision in providing fresh air and sunshine, bed rest, and nutritious foods." I hope this information is of some help. I hope you can provide more information so that the "list" can try to help.
