Can anyone help me locate information on James Goit or Belle Rawley Goit. They were mentioned in an obit of my gr. grandmothers back in 1934. At that time the were from Crystal, Pa. I have not been able to find anything on the two. I find several listings for ( I think her) in the root web census but no even sure it is the same Belle, Nothing on GOIT. Any idea where I could look next searchers? Thank you in advance. To Lorine Schulze - Please let me know if you come across any ship that came to anywhere in Pennsylvania (probably either to Philly or to the vicinity of Erie) across Lake Erie from Canada in the period between 1800 and 1812. I am looking for anyone named JACKSON who may have made such a trip. Such people may have been trying to get away from the British in Canada at the onset of the War of 1812. Thanks! Hi everyone, I have just completed indexing 24 passenger lists from the Pennsylvania Baggage Lists of 1809. These contain the names of passengers who had to pay taxes on excess baggage. It does not contain the names of passengers who were exempt because their luggage was not over the limit. I decided to index all names, not just passenger names, but also the names of those shipping luggage or goods, and the names of those where the goods were being shipped. More will follow as I have time, or as volunteers are found to help. Here is the list of ships I just put online. All sailed to Philadelphia Pennsylvania 1809 Jan 5 Brig Lamprey from Kingston Jamaica 1809 Jan 5 Schooner Wanton from Jamaica 1809 Jan. 30 Schooner Swift from Puerto Rico 1809 Mar. 8 Ship Cordelia from Martinique 1809 Mar. 11 Ship Union from Plymouth & Lorient 1809 Mar. 24 Schooner Archibald from Puerto Rico 1809 Apr. 11 Swedish Ship Abo from St. Bartholomews & Turks Island 1809 Apr. 18 Brig Jean from Liverpool 1809 Apr.18 Ship Mary from London 1809 Apr. 20 Swedish Schooner Maria from St. Thomas 1809 Apr. 22 Ship Live Oak from Liverpool 1809 Apr. 24 Brig Lovely Lass from Batavia 1809 Apr. 29 Ship Ann & Hannah from Turks Island 1809 Apr. 20 Brig Gustaf Ekerman from St. Bartholomew 1809 May 2 Ship Edward & Charles from London 1809 May 2 Schooner George & Susan from Nassau 1809 May 2 Ship Recovery from Liverpool 1809 May 3 Ship Diana from Liverpool 1809 May 8 Brig Reindeer from Havana 1809 May 9 Brig Palafos from Havana 1809 May 9 Schooner Ranger from Puerto Rico 1809 May 9 Schooner Five Sisters from Puerto Rico 1809 May 10 Schooner Blanche from St. Bartholomew 1809 May 10 Brig Ann from Liverpool Most of the ships also have the image of the manifest online too. I will be putting them all online as I have time, so if the one you want isn't there, just come back and check in a few days. You can get to the lists several ways - by going directly to the Baggage Lists for PA at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/ships/#paships or by starting at the index to Ships to USA 1805-1810 at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tousap14b.shtml by going to Ships to PA 1800-present at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tousa_pa1800.shtml This is another project of Olive Tree Genealogy to fill in the gaps, and one that I hope to carry on to 1820, which is when full passenger lists began to be archived and are available to us Enjoy! The Enterprise-Chronicle Burlingame, Osage County, KS Thursday - June 11, 1931 Funeral Services for James Decker. James DECKER, son of George and Nancy DECKER, was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, March 6, 1848, and died at his home in Burlingame, June 6, 1931, age at his death, 83 years, and 3 months. Mr. DECKER was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted in Company G., 46th Regiment P.V.M. Later he was transferred to the 4th Division of Company D. After being mustered out of service he made his home in Pennsylvania for many years, but in 1891 he came to Burlingame, Kansas, where he has since resided except for a few years spent in the Soldiers' Home at Leavenworth and in Oklahoma. A few weeks ago Mr. DECKER suffered a paralytic stroke from which he slowly weakened until the end. During his illness he was tenderly cared for by his niece, Mrs. Jeff SMITH, and the family of his nephew, Will STRUNK. The only near relatives who survive him are a nephew, Will STRUNK, and niece, Mrs. Cora SMITH, of Burlingame, and some cousins whose whereabouts are unknown. Funeral services for James DECKER were held at his late home in Burlingame, Monday afternoon, June 8, 1931, at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev. J.W. TWEED, pastor of the Methodist church. His text was Ps. 90; 10. Misses Vera and Veda HAKES sang "In the Sweet By and By," "Rock of Ages," "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." There was a large attendance at the funeral and many beautiful flowes. The pall bearers were Harvey TURNER, Fred PETERS, Joe McFARLANE, Andrew DRAKE, William CHATFIELD, and Michael URE. W.J. CHATFIELD sounded taps at the grave and the body was laid to rest in the beautiful Burlingame cemetery.

Hello All, I am looking for information on a Mary Sloan (I am assuming this is her married name) b about 1785. Possibly Phila. Mary is found living in Norristown, on the 1850 and 1860 census. Well, at the least circumstantially I believe it may be the same Mary Sloan. On the 1850 she is living in a household with many different people and one other Sloan. James Sloan age 23. Thinking it may be a son. Name: Mary Sloan Age: 64 Estimated Birth Year: 1785 Birth Place: Philada Gender: Female Home in 1850 (City,County,State): Norristown Lower Ward, Montgomery, Pennsylvania Page: 282 Roll: M432_800 On the 1860 she is in the household of WIlliam S Yocum and wife Amanda. 1860 Norristown,Montgomery Co., PA WIlliam S YOCUM 59 Leather Store PA Amanda " 44 " Elizabeth " 20 " WIliam " 13 " Margaret " 17 " Isaac " 16 " Jesse BATCHELDER 24 laborer " Mary " 18 " Mary SLOAN 68 " On a hunch that possibly she may be Amanda's mother I checked earlier census and came up with a Mary Sloan in Upper Merion in 1840 alone . I was looking particularly there in Upper merion because this is where William S Yocum son of Isaac Yocum and Mary Margaret Yocum were from before moving to Norristown. There is an Isaac Yocum on the same page of the 1840 census as Mary Sloan.Too much to ignore. Name: Sloan, Mary Township: Upper Merion County: Montgomery State: Pennsylvania Year: 1840 Roll: M704_478 Page: 314 Image: 342 Age between 40-50 I checked 1830 and came up with one Sloan in Upper merion ...a James Sloan. Just a coincidence that the Mary is with a James in Norristown?? Name: Sloan, James Township: Upper Marion County: Montgomery State: Pennsylvania Year: 1830 Roll: M19_154 Page: 153 Image: 303 Ages vary a bit on the census for Mary but I have learned not to count on that all that often. As I say this is all a hunch and circumstantial but if anyone has any information on this Mary or James I would be most interested. Best looking lead I have found so far as to Amanda's maiden name. Please do not respond to this hit and run spam/scam message that hit the list today. From the information I've been able to gather about this situation, the person who posted this message to this list and many others "hijacked" the email account of the AOL list subscriber and posted his SCAM message on all of the lists the AOL subscriber was subscribed to. So please be aware: 1) that this is a SCAM--ANCESTRY would NOT ask you to pay someone $10 via PayPal (they do not USE paypal) for access to a FREE trial. 2) that the person to whom this email address is assigned isn't the person who is running the scam--he is a victim. So, let's move on--back to Pennsylvania genealogy. Thanks! Joan, co-admin
