greetings list, i have just this evening joined this list and could you help me. my name is robert janmaat (Dutch by acentry) my wife side of the family i have traced back to a Michael Dowdy(doody) and Bridget nee Kennedy, both born Ireland married dec. 1869 him 21 her then 20. Thanks to some help i found them in Oil Creek on the 1870 census. However have been unable to find them or their four kids born PA. prior to 1883 when they where in ther UK boarding the HESPERUS For Adelaide South Australia. their first born was a John Martin who shows on his death Cert. born striansville PA, after seeing the Crawford county map my gut feeling is that should read titusville. Patrick the second born just shows born Pennsylvania USA as the place of birth. the record shows only four children traveling with the parents family tales have it more born but not making the distance, i doubt this as they had four more in South Australia but no early deaths. My Questions are these. Despite searching via the WWW not sure of the Town called Oil Creek in Crawford County PA. are there any birth record for those days that are available. If are they index, searchable, what access is there. Regards Robert, Adelaide _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Declare Yourself - Register online to vote today! http://vote.yahoo.com

Hi! I finally was able to access that census. I can't make out the dates, either, but if he's 33, that would be 1867. If she's 28, that would be 1872, etc. Best I can offer. Thanks again for your help.
The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, January 18, 1906 From the Star, published at Eskridge, Kas., we take the following mention of the death of PROF. W.L. SOUTHWICK, which will be sorrowful news to the many friends here. "A young man whose material form has gone from among us but whose memory will remain green in the hearts of loving relatives and admiring friends, departed this life of appendicitis at Keith's Hospital in Topeka on January, 6, 1905, aged 27 years and 10 months. The deceased was born in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, in 1878 and came to Kansas with his parents, MR. and MRS. (?) A. SOUTHWICK in 1890, since which time he has been almost a continuous resident of this county. He received his education in the public schools of the county in 1897, worthily and successfully performing his professional duties for seven years, winning approval and advancement as his merits became more and more recognized. Something over a year ago, he entered the Gem City Business College at Quincy, Ill., expecting to attain the summit of business law, commercial form and execution; that his untiring and persevering efforts were crowned with success, it's only necessary to state that a few months ago he was chosen as manger of a business college at Chariton, Iowa, a position he faithfully filled and held until his death. Coming home a few days before Christmas, he enjoyed the happy season with loved ones for about ten days when he was taken suddenly and seriously ill. Thinking to place him under the best medical aid obtainable he was taken to Topeka where all that medical science knew and the care and vigilance of trained nurses could supply, was afforded him but without avail. His task was finished and his life ended. Comforting to his sorrowing parents and relatives was his expression, "I am ready to die". The body was brought to Dover for interment. Funeral services were held in one of the churches there and the building was filled to overflowing by those who would do honor to the departed and sympathize with the mourning family. Besides his parents he leaves five brothers and three sisters to grieve over the loss of a genial and helpful comrade. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in their great affliction." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert September 18, 2004 http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm posted at this site with Nancee's permission

Oh thank you! These are definately my guys! You don't know how much help you've just been! Would you like me to try reading your census again tomorrow?
I tried to access your census image on Heritage Quest, but it says the site is closed till 10 am. So I tried the Pa GenWeb. It has partial census listings for 1900 census, but I could only find John Carey 45 laborer, Pa and Annie 43 in Warrior Run. I doubt these are the people you want. Sorry, I tried. You mention you will do Ancestry lookups. Someone just told me that on the index for the CD, Immigrants at the port of Ny 1820-1850, there is a Magdalena, Peter and Barbara Kinn listed. I suspect these are the ancestors I am seeking, but I don't have access to Ancestry and neither did he. Are you able to view this? I would be so grateful. You can contact me directly at _dustbunnytoo@aol.com_ (mailto:dustbunnytoo@aol.com) . Thanks!
Thank you Lynn, I think that is him. Am not quite sure who Christiana is yet, but I know the Loveland name carries on. Could someone send me a scanned image of the 1900, 1910, 1920 & 1930 census if possible on Helen Gill. She would have been in Cambria County, Hastings, PA. I believe that was Elder Township. Husband was Frank, but I don't think he showed on any census. Children I believe would be Frank, Peter, John, William & Albert. Immigration was 1880, however I believe it was after the 1880 census was done. All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hello Listers, My name is Jan and I am new to this list..I live in Brisbane. I joined this list hoping the Edward MURRAY who died in Pennsylvania in Feb. 1965 is my Grandfathers Brother.... Can SKS tell me what information is available.......Are there any Index's that would give me further Information on his Parents...or where he was born.. The death date was on the "Family Search" site..in the" Social Security Index".. I have never used the Social Security Index before ..so dont know if there is further information to be obtained from it... If this is my Edward Murray he would have moved to America some time after 1901 as I found him living in London on the 1901 Census... There were only 3 Edward Murray's on the Social Security Index with a birth date of March 1881....... We only have March no day as Edward's Birth Date... (waiting on the certificate to come from England) Any Help greatly appreciated... as I feel there must be some Cousins out there somewhere... Cheers Jan In Sunny Brisbane
Does anyone know where information can be found on the Sterling Mines 1 & Sterling Mines 2 in Clearfield County PA around 1880? Is there any information on line for this?
Hi, Jan, Did the SSDI mention the city in which he obtained his SSN? Sometimes that helps. It would help to know which city in PA in which he died. Then it make it easier to find him in the census records in the US. I've got Murray relation in PA....in Wilkes Barre, Luzerne County. They aren't blood to me, but married to my aunt. My Murrays are Irish. This doesn't mean yours was necessarily, but I'm betting the Murray surname is taken back there eventually. If you've got a city or county in PA, let me know, I can check some of the census years.
