She was born in 1867 died 1960. Filed sometime in the 1930's for a number but wasn't on the SSDI index. Absolutely! Not everyone with a number is on the SSDI list. Nor is everyone who received benefits. Since your person had a SSN, she applied for it, and it is that application you are after. Considering your person's age when SSA went into effect in the mid-1930's, she likely received something called Special J Benefits. SSA set a retirement age for the first time. Before that, there was no such thing as retirement, and a person worked until they died or became unable to work, in which case their families or their County took care of them. When SS began, there were many working people who were already at, near, or beyond, the designated retirement age of 65. These people were granted Special J Benefits, which were, in effect, Social Security for those already 65 and never contributed, or were too old/disabled to work the required quarters before retirement. My paternal grandparents received these benefits. It is interesting to note that the retirement age of 65 was set at a time when the average age at death was 64. Susan in Louisiana

    2. If your person died but isn't on the SSDI, but you do have a SS# is it worth requesting their application from SSA? She was born in 1867 died 1960. Filed sometime in the 1930's for a number but wasn't on the SSDI index. Thanks for the input. Lindsey

    3. Hello, I am trying to locate a place from my great Uncle's autobiography. He wrote that in 1867 the family moved to PA, Unionville, Baldeagle Valley. I found a Baldeagle in Clinton Co (they went to Clinton later) and a Unionville in Centre Co (they went to Centre also). Another Unionville in Union Co (one spouse is from Union Co). I'd sure appreciate finding the county so that I can find marriage records and census for the spouses my family married during that time. Thanks for any help, Marlaina Fritz Barr

    2. 2. Ella, I see you have a reference to Orphan' s Court- Philadelphia Marriage License Index 1885 to 1916. I was wondering if you could check for the names: George Duetsch and Catherine Galster (approx. 1885 to 1887) Could be spelled Dutsch and Catherine with a K also. Truly, Robin

    2. Orphans Court - Philadelphia Marriage License Index, 1885 - 1916 BECHTEL, Maude F (ALBURGER) 1900 F 127765 I wonder if the above named are related in anyway to the following... I have an Adam William MARKER, born about 1849 in Philadelphia, married to Sarah RUTTER/RITTER born about 1851 in Philadelphia..daughter of my great great grandparents George and Emma RUTTER who were both born circa 1830 in Philadelphia, PA. Adam MARKERs parents were Robert MARKER and Mary ALBURGER. Robert's parents were Conrad MARKER and Martha Margaret ? possibly SMITH. Conrad's parents were Gottfried MARKER and Marie Magdalena SCHMID. Gottfried had a brother Johann Andreas (Andrew) MARKER who was married to Elizabeth KIELHAUER/KILLHOWER who married Samuel RAMBO, a direct descendent of the Swedish RAMBO Pennsylvania family, after Johann's death. If anyone has a connection or info I would love to hear from you. Good luck, Ella

    1. Back To The Old Home ~ Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Palmer
    2. The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa thursday, December 21, 1905 MR. and MRS. A.J. PALMER and daughter, MISS MARY, returned Wednesday from Pennsylvania, where they had been visiting for the past three weeks among friends and relatives. Among the different places visited was Indiana County, Pennsylvania, which was the home of the father, grandfather and great grandfather of MR. PALMER. Near Blairstown, they visited a country school, pupils of which were all relatives of the PALMER family. One relative was living on a farm which has been in continuous possession of the family since 1709, and on which are bearing apple trees planted in 1800. MR. and MRS. PALMER visited Johnstown of notable flood history, and also crossed the Allegheny Mountains. This is their third visit, and perhaps the most enjoyable of any. -- ALBIA NEWS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert September 23, 2004 http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm posted at this site with Nancee's permission.

    1. Neuhofer
    2. Does anyone have any more info on Frederick Neuhofer who lived at least part of his life in Pennsylvania? He was born in Germany in about 1842 and married Alice Eckert in Danville, Pa, . Their daughter Caroline was born in Danville in 1875. There was another daughter who is mentioned in her mother's obituary as Mrs. C. Platt. (If anyone knows more about her, she's another brick wall for me.) She shows up on a census as Lisy and was born in Cleveland about 1878. I have found a reference in FamilySearch for a Frederick/Frank Neuhofer born to Frederick and Alice Neuhofer in Cleveland in 1878. The name is so rare, I have to believe it is the same family. However no mention of this son appears in the mother's obit, so I presume he died young. Perhaps little Fred and Lisy were twins? I also presume Fred, Sr, died young (or they were divorced) for Alice later married Ernst Clausing. Fred and Alice are in the 1880 Cuyahoga census as Newhofer, but that is the only mention I have seen. There is an intriguing census entry for a Fred Newhoffer in Lorain in 1910, but there is a 5 year difference in the ages with Fred, Sr. There is also a Florence Kitsteiner mentioned in Alice's obit as a granddaughter. I do not believe this is Carrie's child, so she probably belongs to Lisy. Florence was born in 1900 in Ohio and died in Miami in 1975. I believe her husband's name was William. Can you help?

    3. How would I, or is there someone who has access to older records who could tell me how to find a marrage ceticate for my gggrandparents, Im not sure how this was done then. My gggrandfather, came here in 1860, he was 21, in 1870 there is one child listed, in 1880 the son is listed as ten. The 1870 date I cant figure out, its 10/12 for the same boy. My gggrandmother died in 1884. So perhaps they were maried in 1869-1870....maybe 1868, my gggrandmother is listed as being 18 in 1870, so I guess Id guess 1868-69. There are different ages listed for every record for her. Its anna Burns to James Doyle, the family all belonged to St Anns Parish, but I dont know about her because she died so many years before hand. She died of TB, and I wondered if there would be any records on her with PA communicable disease if they recorded them, at that time. There are no records on her at all, anywhere and her grave is unmarked as well. Thank You. Linda Dougan. This all took place in Erie Pa.! They lived on Newman St, and E 5th st. Thanks again.
