Hello All, I am researching the Gracey surname. I have been given two separate pieces of information about my 3rd great grandfather James Gracey (Sr) born Philadelphia in 1805. He lived in Philadelphia, Limerick,Montgomery County and Spring City, Chester County through the years. His obituary mentioned the fact that he "Was toll gatherer at the Royersford bridge for about twelve years; also carried on the tailoring business at the same time." I was just sent a map of Spring City in 1870 and in one area under a listing of individuals in "Royer's Ford" in the listing James Gracey, Tailor and Toll Collector "since 1850." Does anyone have any information about this bridge and toll? Thanks Kassie

Here is another POTTS family that lived in the same Ward as my family in the 1850 census...page 365... John POTTS - age 43 - tavern keeper - born in PA Sarah - age 32 - born in PA Ellen - age 14 - born in PA Mary A. - age 12 - born in PA William - age 10 - born in PA John - age 8 - born in PA Thomas - age 6 - born in PA Edward - age 2 months - born in PA Might these POTTS connect in any way with the names I mentioned in my previous post to the lists? RITTER/RUTTER JOHNSON EASTERDAY LITTLE HARVEY RAMBO GILROY BROWN I would any thoughts or suggestions, Ella
Hello all, I finally found (again!) my great great great grandparents in the 1850 census by painstakingly going through each individual page of the census. They lived in the Southwark District. Ward 5. Philadelphia, PA. Now I can finally post that information here. It's not much but it's a start anyway. John is at the bottom of one page and Sarah is at the top of the next. page 410b John RITTER - age 65 - rope maker - born in PA page 411a Sarah RITTER - age 65 - born in PA living in the same house...I'm not sure of the last name..of course the 5th ward is the hardest to read...I'm taking my best guess... William DEVENTON - age 45 - born in England Catherine - age looks like 48 - born in PA now...enumerated just before my ggg grandparents page 410b William JOHNSON - age 23 - moulder - born in PA Catherine - age 19 - born in PA Sarah - age 1 - born in PA Enumerated just after...I cannot make out the surname at all but maybe someone will recognize the 1st names and/or the other person living with them... page 411a John - age 40 - born in PA Elizabeth - age 30 - born in PA Mary? - age 15 - born in PA Sarah - age 13 - born in PA Caroline - age 11 - born in PA Cecelia - age 9 - born in PA Mary LITTLE - age 65 - born in PA Another family listed on page 410b that I also found the same surname near other family members... George EASTERDAY - age 37 - born in PA Catherine - age 38 - born in PA Mary A. - age 14 - born in PA Margaret - age 11 - born in PA possibly Phoebe - age 9 - born in PA George - age 4 - born in PA Catherine - age 4 or 1 - born in PA enumerated a few houses later...also page 410b... Peter D. HARVEY - age 65 - born in NJ Peter D. - age 23 - born in NJ Joseph - age 19 - born in NJ Anna - age 17 - born in NJ James - age 16 - born in NJ Peter is most likely related to James HARVEY born about 1812 in NJ who was married to Mary ? born about 1820 in PA. Their son James, born about 1854, married Elizabeth RUTTER born about 1854 in Philadelphia. Elizabeth was the daughter of my great great grandparents GeorgeRITTER/RUTTER, born about 1830 in PA and Emma ? born about 1833 in PA. Which leads us right back to John RITTER born about 1785 and Sarah...George's parents. Southwark District ward 5 again...page 372 David RAMBO - age 35 - house carpenter - born in PA Ann - age 34 ? - born in PA Harriet - age 4 - born in PA Ann - age 8 months ?- born in PA William POTTS - age 25 - vitular (a what?) - born in PA Sarah - age 25 - born in PA Mary - age 1 month - born in PA William GILROY - age 14 - born in PA Now... I need to find the image again for the exact names and info and I will list it once I find it...but my James HARVEY, born about 1812, had 2 BROWNs living with him in the 1850 census in the Southwark District. There is this BROWN family enumerated just before William POTTS. Thomas BROWN - age 25 - born in NJ Maria - age 30 - born in NJ Mary - age 18 - born in PA I am in the process of gathering all other RITTER/RUTTERs and other family members in the same ward as well as others to see if anyone might be able to make a connection or I can finally go back another generation and connect to most likely the RUTTERs of Colebrookdale. There are just too many POTTS, RAMBOs and other surnames that connect to that family in the same ward as well as the other wards in the Southwark District. I'll also go through the Moyamensing and Pine Districts since a few of my other RITTER/RUTTER family members are found living there. I will eventually list all families and possible families in these districts and wards over the next week or so as time permits. If any of you think that you might have a connection or you might have some information that can help me in my research I would love to hear from you. I have collected a bit of my RITTER/RUTTER family information over the years that I am willing to share if it might be of any help to any of you. Good luck in your research and I will post to the list as I piece this family together. Hopefully I didn't manage to confuse any of you. Ella

Does anyone have the 1900 census for Scranton. I would appreciate a check on the entry for Thomas HARRIS in Ward 1., if possible. The Harris family consist of Thomas Harris age 36 head born in Wales of Welsh parents. The same for his wife Ida age 33. There should be two children John 11, and Louisa 5, both born PA. Could anyone tell me if the date they emigrated to the USA is listed on this entry? Many thanks. Isabel - Wales.
Hi, Isabel, Found your family and no, the immigration year is not listed, unfortunately. Do you want a jpeg of this image? Is he still in the US in 1910 or 1920? Those also ask about year of immigration and I could check those (though the further in times it gets from the event, the poorer the memory!)
