    3. Hi, Heidi: I'm glad that was helpful. Check with your library system to see if they offer anything. I'm in Maryland and the Maryland Public Library System provides free access to Heritage Quest Online. Do you know John's father's name? Do you know where in PA John was born? Do you know his wife's maiden name? You're quite welcome. Debra On Wednesday, Oct 13, 2004, at 18:00 US/Eastern, Heidi wrote: > Extremely useful !! 1. Re: [PA] Pontius
    2. Nelson Thank you for your reply. I have been checking back in census looking for hopefully a sign of Mollie in the 1850. I have a few Marys that show up but ages are not exceptionally close to what dates we have located for her birth. Of course census are not a reliable form of information on ages.... I had done a search in Northumberland thinking that I may find something there. I am hoping a ten year search for her death certificate will produce something also. Took a guess as to where she died. We know she lived past 1930 as she is on the 1930 census and our mother recalls meeting her as a young girl. She said she lived just outside of Lewisburg at the time. Mom said she spoke little English and was not able to fully understand her. Mom has always said she spoke "PA Dutch." I am going on much of the family stories and finding most have been pretty close. Appreciate the info on the area to look into. Kassie

    2. Rebecca C. Warlow
    3. Hi Kathy, If John Curtis was living in Luzerne County at the time of his naturaliztion you should write to the Luzerne County Courthouse in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. If he was living in NJ when he was naturalized and you know which county he was in then you can try the NJ State Archives in Trenton and the local county court. In NJ the records can be in either place, it just depends on the county. I don't have the addresses but a web search should find them. Rebecca From: "Kathy Witheridge" <kathpaul@ebtech.net> I would like to know how I go on about obtaining Naturalization documents.

    2. Nelson Sulouff
    3. Nearly a century before Snyder Co. was taken off of Union Co. in 1855, there was a Pontius family in the Buffalo Valley directly north of what became Snyder Co. To be more precise, data I have accumulated includes that Johannes Pontius (1717-1792) immigrated from Berglangenbach, Palatinate Germany, and first settled in the Tulpehocken region of Berks Co. He was naturalized on 3/21/1762. After land opened up west of the Susquehanna River, he migrated westward to the Buffalo Valley, an area which was then in Northumberland Co. and which, in 1813, came into Union Co. There's a very great likelihood that your Mollie/Molly/Mary Pontius is a descendant. You would probably do well to backtrack to the north of Kratzerville in your search for Molly's ancestors. Pontius is not a very common name, so census records beginning in 1790 should help you decide where to look; but since census records do not contain first names until 1850, your search efforts will probably also have to include deeds, wills, and church records. At least I think you will have a rather narrow and short distance in which to ferret out Molly's ancestors. Nelson R. Mollie married Jacob BEAVER born Sept 1837. They lived in Kratzerville, Jackson twp, Snyder County,Pa through most of the years together. They were married 14 AUG 1862. She was named as Polly on the marriage records I have found. Early census she uses the Polly then begins using Mollie and is found as such until her last appearance on the 1930 census in the household of her son Jonathan Beaver in New Berlin, Union County,Pa. Thank you for any help.
