Hi, Peter, I checked to see if your Underwoods were in PA in 1870 and it doesn't seem so. There was only one Arthur Underwood, aged 2, born in England in 1867, in Scott, Allegheny County, PA. I wonder if they could be relatives. Parents are Edwin and Jane. Anyway, if you know Emma was born in 1874, do you know which county in PA she was born in? The state records begin at 1906 unfortunately, but sometimes you can get lucky by writing to the individual counties depending on how recently they began keeping records. 1874 is a stretch, probably, but you never know. I wish we had a BMD index that begins in 1837!! I had a peek a the England 1871 and couldn't find Arthur and Julia together on there either, but it's not yet fully indexed and perhaps they weren't married yet? Hope this helps some, though I know it's not much. Knowing the county she was born in would at least lead you in the right direction. Hi! Guys Am new to your list as up to now all my family here in the UK. The 1881 UK Census shows my ancestors Arthur & Julia UNDERWOOD as having a daughter Emma UNDERWOOD born in 1874 in the State of Pennsylvania. As Arthur was an Ironstone Miner from Staffordshire UK it seems he came over the pond to work but was back in the Uk in 1891. Not knowing your birth registration setup I was wondering if SKS could dig up any information. Peter Jones Devon UK

Hi, Margaret, Not everyone took out naturalization papers or became citizens, but the way to find out is to check with the county. The later censuses ask questions about citizenship. 1900 asks about year of immigration to US, number of years in US, and whether or not naturalized. The 1910 census asked the first and the last one. The 1920 goes so far as to ask what year you were naturalized, etc. Do you have your family in those years? I could look for you if you don't. You can then check with the county they were living in during the year you suspect naturalization. Keep in mind that in those times wives automatically became naturalized when their husbands did, so no relevant information would be given on the wife you're trying to figure out. Do you have this couple in the 1871 census in the UK? This may give more info on E.E. I can check 1871 for you also if you need it. Regards, Elysia ----- Original Message ----- From: "B. My ggrandfather Herman DINKLOCKER died in Hazleton, PA in 1928. In addition to the family members listed in his obit, it also stated, "a step-sister, Mrs. Jacob MOYER, of Saratoga Lake, NY and one stepbrother, Samuel WELLER, of Philadelphia, also survive." As far as my family knows, there was no second marriage (or first?) for his parents (Christian DINKLOCKER, d 1879 and wife Mary d 1896) that resulted in additional children. Does anyone have any knowledge of this relationship or connection? Any help/suggestions appreciated. Sharon

Hi Marian, Not familiar as yet. have very little on my Aherns. My grandmother Camilla E. HAPPOLD, nee AHERN was the daughter of Camilla Ahern, nee ALLEN and John H. Ahern. At the time of her birth, June 24, 1892, they lived at 2007 S. 6th Street, Philadelphia. Information is from her birth certificate. From the burial information at Fernwood Cemetery, her parents, probable grandparents on the Allen side and others. At the Happold burial same cemetery, besides my grandparents, Camilla and Theodore Happold, some of their children and a Mary E Ahern age 18 and another Mary F? Ahern age 23 years. There is also a 4month old child Cornella Robinson. The baby is said to be the son of Camilla's sister, Francis Robinson, nee Ahern. Camilla's brother was a James Ahern. I don't know where he is buried for sure. His wife was Hanna. Have some dates etc. from census, and a few family records but not much else. Any connection please let me know. Hello again, I found, on the web, a will for a William BAIRD of Southwark Philadelphia proven in 1810. He mentions a brother still in Ireland named Mark and other sisters. BAIRD, WILLIAM. Southwark. Phila. Co. Mariner. February 17, 1810. October 24, 1810. 3.274. Provides for wife Sarah. To sister Martha, wife of Christopher Cunningham of this state. At decease of sd. wife execs. to sell property, money from such sale to his bros. and sisters namely: Mark Baird, Ann wife of William Ferguson, Susannah wife of Patrick Rankin all of Ireland and Martha wife of Christopher Cunningham of PA. Execs: Sd. wife Sarah Baird and friends Joseph Snowden and James Sawer of Phila., merchants. Wit: Samuel S. Veacock, H. H. Kennedy. It is located on this webpage... http://searches1.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/pa/philadelphia/wills/willabstrbk3.txt This peaks my interest because the first census that I found for my BAIRD had them living at 206 Prime (Ellsworth) Street in 1880. I believe that is in the Southwark section of Philadelphia. My great great grandfather John BAIRD was born in Ireland about 1845. Might anyone know if there is a possible connection between the families? Happy Hunting! Ella
Hi everyone I just started a new website called Blacksheep Ancestors. It's a Directory of Links for Prison & Convict Records, Court Records, Executions, Famous Outlaws, Bandits & Criminals. I have some links that may be of interest for Pennsylvania. It's at http://blacksheepancestors.com/usa/pennsylvania.shtml If you have a Blacksheep ancestor (or think you might have) be sure to check this site out. Because it's new there might be some glitches but I'll get better as I go along. I'm planning to get more records of prisoners and other institutional records in the 19th and 20th centuries as time allows -- Tyler S. BlackSheep Ancestors http://blacksheepancestors.com/
Isaac TURNER b May 1788 Paris, FR came to US c 1792 d 1867 Wayne Co., PA. The family name was de la TOURNEUR (var. sp.). The only information I have on him is he enlisted in the War/1812 in Mamaroneck, Westchester Co., NY. He then disappears until he 'arrives' in Wayne Co. in 1848 when he married Nancy KELL(E)Y. They had 8 children. In a newspaper interview with one of his daughters, she gave the information re her father's date and place of birth and when he came to US. I have no info at all on Isaac's parentage or siblings. Family lore says he 'came from the West' to PA and was married at least once before he married Nancy. I believe he had a son John who lived next door to Isaac/Nancy in the 1850 census. The name Milton was given to several sons in those early years. The family was also prone to twins.
