In general......did the records stay in the newly formed counties and/or did Virginia keep the records? I'm looking for the parents of Robert Erwin/Irwin, b 1803 Westmorland Co., PA. I've hit a brick wall where he is concerned....do I need to search Virginia records? Robert married Elizabeth WALLACE, b 1803 in Adams Co., OH in 1825. I assume he was in Westmoreland Co. PA between 1802-1825. I haven't found anything on Elizabeth WALLACE either. I was wondering how I might find information about my gg-grandfather Jacob Murphey who was from Fayette County, Dunbar Township, born about 1810, and moved to Illinois about 1850. He was born in Pa., and was a farmer. Carol Knott
Ack! I forgot to add John Servey to the neighbors!
Hello Lists! First excuse the duplicate cross-list posting, but this might be of interest to all. I received some land records from PA Archives, and I'm trying to pinpoint the exact location. The names in the title all surround the subject property, and it lies along a portion of Northkill Creek. Following is the description on the patent, which was granted to Conrad Reever, after having purchased it from Jacob Milliron when he moved to Hempfield, Westmoreland around 1772. Jacob secured the warrant in 1759. Also, if anybody can help me fill in the blanks of my transcription, I would appreciate it. I have yet to scan the accompanying map, but if anybody would like a copy when I get it, just reply personally. ......................................................................................... I have in my possession a yearbook from COLESTOCK HIGH SCHOOL in TITUSVILLE, PA for the year 1936. The student who owned this yearbook was LEONA HOWER. Her name is inscribed on the front cover. Together with this yearbook is a COLESTOCK HIGH SCHOOL AUTOGRAPH REGISTER for the year 1937. This, too, belonged to LEONA HOWER and many other students and faculty have signed it. I'm hoping to get these items back to a descendant of Leona Hower (first choice) or to a descendant of someone who graduated in 1936. All the graduates for that year are pictured. Sue Susan M. I use to have a link what about Berks co........was it always in Pa? Yes, parts of Pennsylvania and Virginia were claimed by both VA and PA. Most of this particular dispute concerned the south and western part of the PA. While Berks doesn't seem to be involved in the VA disputes, it did a whole lot of evolving. Here is a link to a site where you can watch the PA county evolutions on a slide show or pick a year at a time to review. http://www.mypennsylvaniagenealogy.com/pa_maps/pa_cf.htm The site has links to all states. Most of Southwest PA was claimed by Virginia until a settlement with PA in 1783 - Westmoreland, Allegheny, Fayette and Cumberland - just about everything west of Berks.

Doris Doris- The three day free trial for the census records doesn't require a credit card so there is no way anyone could "sign you up" and force you to cancel. Please let's NOT start a discussion on the list about pros and cons of subscribing to Ancestry.com. Eliz was kind enough to alert the list members to the three day free trial serving as an introduction to the completion of the US census database. If you wish to make use of that free offer--fine, if not--fine. Either way it isn't a subject for further discussion on the list. Thanks! Joan, co-admin
