Hi Virginia, The place to start a search on this is to check The County's Children and Youth Service. I was placed in a Children's Home in June of 1957, my birthmother had died shortly afterwards. 47 years later I found the home and my records weren't in the building so I went to The Fayette County Children and Youth Service. As long as you have some ID they can serch your record. I had to have my drivers ID and my Adopted Birth Certificate. So there should be one in the area Christina was in. Hi, Virginia: I rechecked the census image to make sure that I didn't mis-read the "Dresa"...it is indexed as Dresa and it's definitely written as a "D". But I noticed that I made a mistake: John M. should have been noted as PA/Germany/Germany & Dresa should have been noted as PA/ Germany/PA. Regarding Albert Spath: Year: 1900; Census Place: Allegheny Ward 13, Allegheny, Pennsylvania; Roll: T623 1357; Page: 20A; Enumeration District: 97. St. Joseph's Orphan. Asylum, Return Street - 6/15/1900 Spath, Albert - inmate - w - m - 4/1887 - 13 - single - laborer --- Margaret - inmate - w - f - 7/1889 - 10 - single - at school PA/Germany/Germany for both. So, maybe St. Joseph's is the orphanage you're looking for... Debra On Oct 12, 2006, at 7:15 PM, Virginia Patricelli wrote: > This could certainly be them! Lindsey, Wow, that was quick! So, if I write to the Archives and Record Center, I should be able to verify Christina's family? The information I got on Joseph back then was mainly what happened to his family. I'm going to try though I am pretty sure the information I got from all of you is correct. Its just too close not to be. I wish my Mother-in-Law was still living. I was never able to find them before. Debra, I'm sure it is. Albert had three sisters - all of them died while in the orphanage, one was named Margaret. Also his mother died during that time too. No wonder he ran away. Unfortunately after they had five children, Christina moved out and remarried! Thanks, Virginia ----- Original Message ----- From: "D. Janet, I don't know where to begin finding records for the home. As it turned out, Christina fell in love with Albert Spath at the Orphanage and they ran away and got married. Years ago I wrote to a diocese(I think) and they gave me some information on him but I no longer remember how I found it. If they were in Allegheny Co., would there have been a St. Joseph Orphanage or other institution run by Nuns? Just a long shot. What are the year of births of these children? I found a JM Wilshire in VA in 1900 with wife Betty and 3 children. This man say he ws born in 1860 which is only 2 years off the year you gave. How sure are you of the 1862 year? Bessie M. 11 Wm. E. 9 Jas Merrill 6 Could there be more children born between 1900 and 1910? As far as I know she was born in Clarion. Now I wonder if Christina was her middle name - say Mary Christina. I don't think there is anyone alive that would know. The other possibility is that she was in an orphanage by that time. Maybe the Mother was dead and the younger children were there. I think you may have found John Wilshire's family. The county is right and the age is close. I guess maybe I should check for a death certificate for him. Mom said he died in 1939. Thanks again. I am only going by the information that my mother in law gave me a long time ago. Christina is the only one that I have the age and she was born in 1892. The other children were John, Frederick, William, Agnes and Mary. They may have been older. She also told me he was born in Arthurs, Clarion Co., PA. Not much to go on. I appreciate your help. I've been wanting to locate him for a long time.
