    3. Hello again Debra, Thanks for the latest one. My Gt Uncle was both Frank and Francis. He was born in Nottingham, UK., as Frank Mason, emigrating to Philly in 1895. Married Rose Hammill 1899. Naturalised 1910. On his wartime registrations in 1918 & 1942 he calls himself Francis Joseph Mason - but place of birth and date of birth make it certain that this is our 'Frank' You may have noticed that his wife, Roses' parents, were both of Irish extraction and we suspect that she may have been Catholic and that Frank turned Catholic himself and adopted Saints names - common practice I understand. I now have them on all Censuses from 1900 - 1930 inc., I have his registrations in 1918 & 1942 as well as his immigration in 1895 on the SS Ohio from Liverpool, UK. We also have what is possibly the death of the Son, Francis Mason in 1955. What we don't have are any documents re death of Frank/Francis or Rose nee Hamill. Nor do we have anything on the marriage of Irwin Dietrick and the daughter, Alma Mason, about 1922. I have been having fun finding their various addresses on the net and looking at satelite photos of were they lived. Its both fascinating and scary in a way. When we were kids during the War doing things like that would have seemed like Magic - literally ! Thanks again for your help. Best wishes, Tony R Burton. Scotland. 3. Hi Virginia, Many thanks for your contact. I'm afraid I know nothing about the Ancestors of Irwin Dietrick other than, according to the 1930 Census, he and both his parents were all born in Pennsylvania. Sorry to say it but I find the American records far more difficult to work through than English ones - and the English ones aren't a patch on the Scottish records, which are superb! I have written to five Dietricks in Philly, looking for descendants, with one negative response so far. Best wishes, Tony R Burton. Scotland. Protected by F.Secure Anti Virus, frequently updated. Since all I have is an approximate date of birth for Clara ( we have abt 1860/61) perhaps Rhoda married Henry Anderson soon after this 1860 census. The census you sent for Benjamin Bivens and Harrison in 1880 has been a problem for me as it has two Clara Bivens. One was Harrison's sister and one his wife. The age for the Clara that is listed as his sister (18) seemed to me should have been the age for Clara his wife.(listed as 20) The census shows that Harison and Clara were married within the year. On the 1900 for Clara her date of birth is given as Oct 1860. Still a long way to go but I sure appreciate the help. I love mysteries..... Kassie Bevan

    3. Hello everyone, This is quite exciting for me as before today I havent had any of my British families move to America. So it would be lovely if any of you on the list share the same names. GRANT, Joseph. b. 14 Mar. 1809 Leamington, Northumberland. Died 27 Dec. 1887 in Belle Vernon, PA. I'm pretty sure his wife Jane, nee Calloway, died before he emigrated, but the children, William Henry, Moses, John, Joseph and Thomas all died in different US states. An anonymous person put all Joseph's descendants onto Ancestry, so there are many different names, many of whom are living still in America, but I will list them on a separate post. Thanking you very much, Pauline, on the Gold Coast, Australia. _________________________________________________________________ See Jet live in LA. 1. [PA] LAWRENCE mid 1800's
    2. Beverly Porter
    3. Do hope some good folk on this list can point me in the right direction. This is my biggest brick wall. I have long been looking for the parents of Annie Lawrence, born circa 1858. Annie married Frederick Fearn in the early 1870's and lived in Camden New Jersey. She had her first son when she was 16 in Pennsylvania and died in childbirth in 1883. A short life. Her father was from Pennsylvania and her mother, a Mrs Lawrence, lived there in the 1880's. She took in one of the children after Annie died.He later ran away. Frederick remarried. And that is all I have! I haven't been able to find any marriage in New Jersey, and from recent discussion it looks like a marriage in Pennsylvania will prove difficult to trace. Any help would be appreciated. Where should I head next? Beverly Fearn Porter, Columbia, MD

    3. Hi Nena, In your listings below, William Hicks would likely be the son of Samuel Hicks and Cassandra Thomas. Samuel Hicks was the son of George Hicks of Richland Twp., Bucks County, and Cassandra was the wife of Josiah Thomas and wife Hannah Custard. These two were from now Carbon County, Josiah was the brother of William, Levi, Evan and Joshua Thomas, sons of Richard Thomas and Elizabeth Walton of Hilltown PA. The Dodsons were also originally from Carbon, the came to Carbon about 1772, Abigail Dodson was captured with the Gilbert family in an Indian raid on their mill in 1780. Some of the children of that family in Carbon moved to around Salem Twp. in Luzerne about the time that Josiah Thomas, and Samuel Hicks moved there, just before 1800 I believe. Was the Lawrence Smethers mentioned in your list married to Margaretha B. Rittenhouse? The date of the document seems to indicate that this might be the man, he was born 1799. Margaretha is a daughter of Jacob Rittenhouse and Maria Salome Arner, Maria Salome would be my ggg aunt. Hope this helps, Judy > Samuel Smithers; John Cool; Jacob Bittenbender; Conrad Blofs; Abraham > Keen, > Peter Good; James Dodson; Peter Bittenbender; John Blofs; George Rough; > William Hick and William Freas, > twelve honest & lawful men of my Bailwick. > Church Book for the Nescopeck Congregation, Luzerne County, Pa. *Thomas > Dodson, James Dodson, John Dodson,* > 11William Hicks > Samuel Hicks, George Smuthers, Henry Smuthers, Jacob Smuthers, Jacob > Smuthers, Jr. -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
