Here is the link to the website about the grassroots effort to get older Pennsylvania state death certificates available online like they have started to do in other states: http://users.rcn.com/timarg/PaHR-Access.htm . If you would pass this information onto anyone you know who is into Pennsylvania genealogy and history including out of state residents. I'm sure you can appreciate just how helpful such a database would be in doing research.

Hi Listers, Need opinions and ideas with this family. 1 James Augustus Brennan b: February 28, 1855 Wilkham, PA (per death cert. - no such town that I can find) d: October 17, 1904 Philadelphia, PA Burial: October 21, 1904 Holy Cross Cemetery, Philadephia, PA Census 1880: Philadelphia, PA (says James was born in Ireland) The "Catholic Standard and Times Oct 1904 lists his birth place as Sandy Run, PA (can't find that town either) The city obit says that he was a well known minor league baseball player. Now, here's another twist. I checked the Encyclopedia of Baseball Catchers. There was, in fact, a James Brennan that played baseball, But his birth name was John Gottlieb Dorn born in St. Louis, MO. Can anyone come up with an opinion what happened with that info? I'm most interested in finding info on the first family, as quite possibly they can sort out their father's story. By the way, per his marriage cert with Catherine Meagher, it states his parents as John and Bridget McGinty Brennan. Could they have adopted him? Called Philly City Archives and they want a small fortune to look up these sons since I don't know a year. .. +Annie T. Gallagher b: 1858 Pennsylvania m: Bef. 1880 d: August 20, 1894 Philadelphia, PA Burial: August 22, 1894 Holy Cross Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA ... 2 John Brennan ... 2 Frank Brennan ... 2 James Brennan ... 2 Joseph Brennan According to Philadelphia Archdiocesan Research Center, the first wife and kids couldn't be found in parish registers, ie: Our Lady of Mercy, St. Edward the Confessor and St. Columba. Also, they checked 8 other parishes for their baptismal. None!! However, the sons are listed in his will. *2nd Wife of James Augustus Brennan: .. +Agnes m: Bef. 1895 No record found in church register *3rd Wife of James Augustus Brennan: .. +Katharine Teresa Meagher b: October 28, 1871 Cambridge, Middlesex, MA m: July 28, 1896 St. Gregory Catholic Church, Dorchester, Suffolk, MA d: Abt. 1961 Draoda, Ireland ... 2 Margaret Mary Brennan On 1930 census says father was born in North Ireland ... 2 Katharine Chamberlain Brennan ... 2 Patricia Elizabeth Brennan ... 2 Ellinor B. Brennan ... 2 Blanid Dorothy Brennan Many many thanks for your time and consideration, Jeannette Mahony **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? I have tried this several times. It just sits there and nothing happens. I do have Flash, so there should be no problem. I am on a modem connection (country) at 26400 baud. Maybe this is the problem. Jacqueline I am not sure if it was actually considered PA or not .,It would probably take a lot of digging to see where all the boundry lines were drawn over the years. However the name Owego changed location a few times. The town was first settled around 1786. The "Original Town of Owego" was created at the time Tioga County was formed in 1791. This original town was reduced by formation of later towns in the county. Confusion as to the location of the Village of Owego caused the Town of Owego and the Town of Tioga to switch names in 1813 so that Owego village was in the same-named town. There also were disputes about boundries in that particualr area and a number of different boundy maps were drawn up over theyears. At one point Owego was in Indian territory.I have not seen it said that it was part of PA but don't hold me to that. I know even where I live today in Oregon we call the entire area we live in by the main town's name so when someone asks where do you live we give the post office name of the town and not the name of the area we live in 16 miles from it. Hard to say how the military at that time would look at it since Pa is right on the border of Owego. Kassie. **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Could someone on the list tell me if Owego was in the state of Pennsylvania in the during the Revolutionary War period and also pre War period. Military papers say it was and the Town of Owego says it was not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Jacqueline in Nova Scotia
FamilySearchLabs is putting up the 1860 Federal Census and Civil War Pension Card Index at http://familysearchlabs.org I blogged about it at: http://blog.genealogybank.com/2008/05/1860-census-civil-war-pension-index.html Tom
Thank you SO much for the information. It is great! Although I did not find everyone I was looking for, I did find some of the missing children in my tree. Thanks again for sharing. Does anyone have any suggestions for finding information for James H. Lee in Venango County, Oil City, PA area in 1800s?? I have information that he and his wife Sarah Cox are buried in a neglected cemetery which was originally their farm land (Lee Cemetery) which later became known as Mount Pleasant Cemetery.? I have information regarding his son Samuel C Lee (BD 02 Dec 1829; DD 10 May 1896)??and wife Margaret B. Campbell, if anyone could help with any information such as an obituary or historical information that might give some clues as to when James H. Lee might have been born or died.? Most information I have says he originates from Baltimore, Maryland and then migrated to Ohio, then to Pensylvania.? Any help or clues you can provide would be most appreciated - I am wanting to go one generation further.? Without any of this information I am at a brick wall.? I have no idea who James H. Lee's father is and am trying to find out. -----Original Message----- From: Kari Farnell <klaf@dmv.com> To: pennsylvania@rootsweb.com Sent: Sat, 10 May 2008 3:21 pm Subject: Re: [PA] Phila.
