    1. [PA] Institute Registration Dates in February: IGHR, GRIP, and Gen-Fed
    2. Elissa Scalise Powell, CG, CGL
    3. IGHR is opening its registration this Saturday, Feb. 1 for the 13 courses offered July 26-31, 2020. The courses are held on the University of Georgia conference center in Athens, Georgia. Check them out at <https://ighr.gagensociety.org/> https://ighr.gagensociety.org/. You will see many of the same instructors as you see at other institutes and conferences. Gen-Fed has one course of 40 people taught at the National Archives in Washington, DC. Their registration opens on Saturday, February 22 for the forty seats. See <http://www.gen-fed.org/gen-fed-2020/> http://www.gen-fed.org/gen-fed-2020/ GRIP registration opens one week from today on Wednesday, Feb. 5 for the 20 different courses being offered this summer in three separate weeks in Pittsburgh. These courses are very popular so pay attention to the time that each week opens. (But don't be afraid of the wait list since we do accommodate most of it.) You can get the details at <http://www.GRIPitt.org/registration> www.GRIPitt.org/registration which was just revamped yesterday. So if you have read it before look again. There is new material there including a PDF of screen shots of the registration process. Each course has 18 sessions which are detailed along with any pre-requisites under the course name at <http://www.GRIPitt.org/courses> www.GRIPitt.org/courses. You can see that the last thing for each course is time to hand out certificates of attendance. GRIP is the most economical of the institute experiences with on-campus rooms and meals included in the housing package. The in-person experience means you not only benefit from the instructors' knowledge but the other students as well since you have all chosen the same course because of the same interest. There is a lot of camaraderie, sharing, and networking that benefits you even after you have left campus. Take a look at the courses and make your list of which one(s) you want to take from the top instructors in our field. These are the people you are reading their blogs and books and can give you insight into the subject that would take months or years to assimilate in other learning methods. If you want to learn on an accelerated path then institutes should be high on your priority list. See you there! -- Elissa Elissa Scalise Powell, Certified GenealogistR, Certified Genealogical Lecturer(SM) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania <http://www.powellgenealogy.com/> www.PowellGenealogy.com <http://www.gripitt.org/> www.GRIPitt.org - 20 different genealogy courses offered in 3 weeks: 21-26 June 2020, 6-10 July 2020, and 19-24 July 2020 in Pittsburgh, PA

    3. Robert Mattew Jones was born in Wales in 1856. He married in Liverpool, England in 1882. In about 1885 he got into difficulties and fled England. He was known to be in South Connollsville, Pennsylvania by 1905. He bigamously married there in 1907. He was imprisoned for a short period then released with the instruction to return to England. After that I have no trace of him. I have his full history in USA until 1907 but does anyone know anything of him after that? David Railton

BEUY I would be most grateful.  Kindest regards Dianna _______________________________________________ ********* The official website for the PENNSYLVANIA list is:  http://midatlantic.rootsweb.com/pa/ ********* Visit the archives of this list: https://lists.rootsweb.com/hyperkitty/list/pennsylvania@rootsweb.com/ ********* _______________________________________________ Email preferences: http://bit.ly/rootswebpref Unsubscribe https://lists.rootsweb.com/postorius/lists/pennsylvania@rootsweb.com Privacy Statement: https://ancstry.me/2JWBOdY Terms and Conditions: https://ancstry.me/2HDBym9 Rootsweb Blog: http://rootsweb.blog RootsWeb is funded and supported by Ancestry.com and our loyal RootsWeb community

    3. Hi Everyone I’m doing research into the above who MAYBE the parents of MAGDALENA FULLUM/FULLER. I discovered today by looking on the DNA test results that this couple were potentially the parents of MAGDALENA!! I have never been able to find any verification of her parentage! Whoever added these potential parents has JOSEPH CARMICHAEL born about 1740 and his death is recorded as 1783!! Mother NANCY J BEUY b about 1740 died ??? One contributor has she died in January 1849 in Yorkshire England. Magdalena born 18 May 1782 (approximately) and died in 1853 Indiana county PA as Magdalena FULLER (aka FULLEM/FULLUM) wife of NELSON FULLUM from Robinson Twp Washington County PA. To me her parents are “unknown”. I have not been able to find her mentioned in will/probate record as the daughter of anyone!! She did have some land dealings/transactions with a GEORGE CARMICHAEL, but who this man was it is not clear. If there is anything that can be found on JOSEPH CARMICHAEL and wife? Nancy J. 3. For this region and this time period, I found that the best source of information is the local genealogy/history societies. They have access to church records, which often include membership lists, baptism records, etc. They also had tax and land records. With these, I was able to piece together a good amount of information. Also look at Family Search -- the UN-indexed records that do not show up when you do searches. To find these, look in their card catalog for the county of interest. I found probate and other court records this way. One last idea -- my family moved from Somerset to Westmoreland county. It appears that our family was engaged with the building of a road or railroad, and moved with the progress of the project. The two counties are divided by the Laurel Mountains. You might check the census records for both counties. Hope some of these ideas help! Their first child, Samuel, and Hermann's wife, Susanne were baptized March 12, 1848, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Garrett, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Also, if anyone has any other information about this family, I would greatly appreciate it! Hope someone can help me out here. Thanks! His tombstone reads: In Memory of Michael Zimmerman Who Departed This Life March 26, 1839 In the 70 Year of His Age Given the above information, does it mean that he died at 70 years of age Or, does it mean that he was in his 70’s when he died. I am trying to determine his year of birth Dave Zimmerman Howell, Michigan Sent from Mail for Windows 10 _______________________________________________ ********* The official website for the PENNSYLVANIA list is: http://midatlantic.rootsweb.com/pa/ ********* Visit the archives of this list: https://lists.rootsweb.com/hyperkitty/list/pennsylvania@rootsweb.com/ ********* _______________________________________________ Email preferences: http://bit.ly/rootswebpref Unsubscribe https://lists.rootsweb.com/postorius/lists/pennsylvania@rootsweb.com Privacy Statement: https://ancstry.me/2JWBOdY Terms and Conditions: https://ancstry.me/2HDBym9 Rootsweb Blog: http://rootsweb.blog RootsWeb is funded and supported by Ancestry.com and our loyal RootsWeb community

    3. Elissa, Thank you for your response to my question. Age 69, I never considered that. The Cross Roads Cemetery for my ancestor, Michael Zimmerman is in Monroeville, Allegheny County. However, There were Zimmerman’s in Pine township and I am in the process of determining if they were Related to my Zimmermans. Jacob and William Zimmerman are some of the names I am looking for. William Was the son of Jacob and I see that the index includes both of those names. Was it coincidence or fate that My Michael and the Jacob in Pine township both named their first sons William ? Thank you again. If someone is in the "first year of their age" they have not yet reached their first birthday. I am curious as to the source of your tombstone transcription. When the North Hills Genealogists read the entire Cross Roads Cemetery in Pine Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, there was not a Michael. You can see the index for the book at https://northhillsgenealogists.org/cpage.php?pt=15 where Cross Roads Cemetery is between pages 11 and 68. If you ancestor's stone is missing from the book, we would want to know about it. Best wishes, Elissa
