Thomas Pennington III, 1713-1772, of Albemarle Parish in Sussex County, VA. married Rebecca (Pare) or Parr, daughter of William and Rebecca Pare. PP2-3, pg. 3 They had 6 children listed in the Parish register: 1. Faithey, 17344-1797 2. Mary, 1736- 3. Howell, 1742-1819 4. Joel, 1744- 5. (Rebecca?), 1747- 6. William Thomas, 1753-1810 Rebecca Pare, Charles Williams and Nathaniel Holt were Godparents in 1758 for James Pare, son of William Pare, Jr. and wife Jane. Thomas III was a good friend of my ancestor, Matthew Hubbard. They were Godparents for each other's children in Surry and then in Brunswick County, VA. John George Pennington, 1722-1797, of Mecklenburg County, VA married Mary (Pare) daughter of John and Mary Pare. Eight children were: 1. William, 1759- , married Celia Smithson 2. Jane, ca 1761- , married James Connell 3. Martha ca 1763- , married John Harper 4. Sukey, ca 1765- , married James Nash, ca 1785 5. David, ca 1767-1807/08, married Mary Smith, daughter of John and Paulina Smith (also my ancestors). 6. John, 1764- , married (1) Sally Graves (2) Temperance Parker 7. Ann Marshall (Pennington) Oslin, 1771- , married Isaac Oslin PP1-1, pg. 59 PP3--2, pg. 52 John George Pennington was surety for wedding of Martha Pennington to John Harper in 1810 Mecklenburg. I think Wyatt Harper may be a son of John Harper. There are Clements in our family. John Pennington, 1713-1766, called "The Carpenter" of Sussex County, VA. son of Edward Pennington, Sr. and wife Tabitha (Rowland?) lived in Hunting Quarter Swamp on today's Sussex-Surry County line. John married Mary, daughter of William Pare, SR. and wife Rebecca. They had five children: 1. Agnes (Pennington) Johnson, 1739-1810 2. Joshua, 1741-1768 3. Marcus, 1744-1772 4. Sarah, 1750- , married Joshua Moss PP1-3, pg. 19 5. Rebeckah (Pennington) Waddell, 1753- , married Benjamin Waddell. This family moved to North Carolina in particular Warren County. Sussex Will Book B, page 77. Edmon Pennington, 1715-after 1741, of Surry was the third son of Edward and Tabitha Pennington. He married Sarah (Bird?) ca 1740 and had a son William Pennington, 1741- . William Cocke, Mrs. Elizabeth Willie and Timothy Ezell, Jr. were Godparents for William Pennington, 1742, in Albemarle Parish. Edmon Pennington, Hannah Pennington and Sarah Bird were Godparents for Hannah Hancock. This family was related to Hannah (Boone) Stewart Pennington of Group 4/8. PP1-3, pg. 37. John Pennington, Jr. ca 1721-1764, of Sussex, VA. was the eldest son of John Pennington and Phyllis (Forte?) of Albemarle Parish. John Jr. married Anne and had 8 children: 1. Joseph, ca 1739- 2. Jesse, 1740- , whose Godparents were Hannah Pennington, Robert Hancock & Thomas Wrenn. 3. Lucy, 1741- 4. Lewis or "Aris", 1743- , Godparents Thomas Pennington, Thomas Brewer and Mary Bailey. 5. Sarah, 1746- , Godparents were David Stokes, Mary Hubbard, my ancestor, and Rebecca Pennington. 6. Mary, 1748- 7. Frederick, 1751- 8. Lucretia or Ceclia, 1755- whose Godparents were Moss Pennington, Elizabeth Pennington and Anne Dansey. Of special interest is John Pennington, Jr.'s will- PP2-3, pg. 3 and Sussex Will Book B, pg. 78. Apparently 3 Pare girls married Pennington men, all brothers, cousins and sons, etc. PP1-4, pg. 55 Sarah (Pennington) Moss, ca 1725-after 1773, of Surry married 1769 to Joshua Moss and moved to North Carolina. William, Sr. married Celia smithson and had a son William, Jr. and two daughters. John Pennington, 1764-1823, of Mecklenburg, VA. was the sixth child of John George Pennington.
