It's very late, but I will add comments between various statements: REGINALD L VASSAR wrote: > > Steve-- > I have been trying to collect information I have on the Thomas > Penningtons > The difference betweene John Griffin & Jane his wife dau. of Morgan > Lewis dec. pltf. & Tho. I think the "Surry Co., VA. Court Records, 1691-1700, Book V,etc. may be a "book", and not an actual primary source. I emailed Steve about this, and it's something we need to check on. I plan to use: Surry County, Va. Court Orders, 1691-1713, Page 163. (Did I type 164? Should be page 163). > (2) Sarah (George) Lewis married Thomas Pennington after 1677. > (Morgan Lewis---died 1677 (Virginia Wills and Adminstration)-- note > from Sue Gill > > (3) Sarah (George) Lewis married Thomas Pennington prior to Aug 1678 We need to order that will (Morgan Lewis) and look at it before we say for certain. It's always possible that it's a different Morgan Lewis. (Will of Colonial John George) NO REF. -- note from Sue Gill I have not personally ordered this will either. Just saw a note about it on some previous material. > Thomas Pedington the son of Thomas Pedington deced. making it appear > that hee is almost twenty yeares of age, upon his petition is allowed to > have the benefitt of his owne labour (Surry Co., Va Court Records, > 1700-1711, Book VI, p 17: Novr. 1702) --note fromSue Gill > Again, I wonder if this Book VI is not a secondary source, as above. May 1703 (Surry Co., Va > Court Records 1700-1711, Book VI, pg 24 #34) -- note from Steve Privett. Same as above about primary source. We just have to check. I will use: Surry Co., VA. Surry Co., VA. Court Orders 1691-1713, Page 226. Same page, 226, it was ordered that an Inventory of Thomas Pennington's estate be done. Thomas Pennington, Sr. who left a will in Surry Co., Va, dated 13 Feb > 1702, recorded 1703(4), married Sarah (George) Lewis, the widow of > Morgan Lewis 1677/1678.(1) , (3) Thomas Pennington and Sarah > (George)(Lewis) Pennington had three sons,(4), (7) the eldest son was > named Thomas Pennington, who was born 1682/83.66 The two younger sons, > Edward and John chose their Uncle Robert Andrews and their Aunt Ann > (Lewis) Andrews as guaardian when their father died.(7) The Ann (Lewis) Andrews was a daughter of Morgan Lewis & wife Sarah. Sarah also had the three sons, Thomas, Edward, and John. They would be half-brothers to Ann Andrews. So, not an uncle Guardian, but husband of their half-sister. This is super to be getting this data documented. I personally would like to get the wills of Lewis and George. I wonder if there are some other older Surry Co. records available on microfilm? I ordered the above Court Order film simply because, from some information passed along, I knew that there would be some Pennington information on it. Perhaps there is more somewhere else? Sue
