Justin, There was indeed a John Pennington from Sussex Co who married Mary Pair abt 1738. Mary was the d/o Rebecca Bethel and William Pair and sister of Rebecca Pair who married Thomas L Pennington (John's cousin). I show that John and Mary had a daughter Sarah who married a John/Joshua Moss. However this info comes from other people and I've not confirmed it with adequate sources. I'd be interested in knowing your sources and seeing Mary's will. I do have a copy of John Pennington's will, and his ancestors back two generations to Thomas Pennington, the prognietor of Group 10.
