It really is worthwhile checking entries in the online IGI. I ordered the parish records for St Johns, Hackney in London for 1760s and found that Heneage Oglivie Pennington's father John was a Church of England minister (something that isn't noted on the IGI). No mention of his mother sadly ... I asked on the LONDON-L list if anyone knew any list or register that might help me track down ministers. Interestingly, someone had access to a database for Cambridge Alumni 1261-1900 and there was an entry for my Rev. John Pennington, plus an entry for his father (also called John and a mention that his father was called Nicholas. So compiling that info this is what I now have. Any connections out there?
