    1. [Pennington-L] Pennington Groups
    2. Hi Audrey, The Pennington Groups were begun some years back by the Pennington Family Research Assn. They were/are not required but are tools for breaking down the large numbers of Pennington's into more manageable groups. This list is not the Pennington Research Assn. (PRA) list but is a separate surname list owned by Steve Privett. There is a PRA list and some folks belong to both lists. I believe Gene Pennington is still list manager for the PRA list. Back to the PRA Groups. They can be very useful but not entirely necessary. I know that my ancestor was Arad Pennington, long believed to be the son of Wells Pennington. That is Group 32 of PRA. However, I was still Arad's G-G-Gdaughter long before PRA was formed. The groups are not social entities, tho it's nice to talk to folks from your same line. If you don't have a number of a group, don't be concerned. You haven't lost anything. After more research, you may find your line has a group already, or you may choose to try to have a group formed if you are a member of PRA or you might just continue to research if you enjoy it and not worry about groups. I am no longer a member of PRA but continue as a dedicated Pennington researcher. I seldom have a reason to use the group designation anymore. My point is that folks don't need to get overly concerned or spend too much time trying to fit into groups. Just use them if you want to. Barb T

    3. Hi Barb, That was such a nice post, and thanks. Because I was successful in finding the line I need through this List, I may stay here and not be concerned about the other. But, yes, it is great to correspond with relatives who are "cousins"...nice ones too. It is my brother's wife's lineage and she knows no relatives and I wanted to give this to her for her anniversary. You probably saw that. I appreciate the time you took to reply to my query. Thank so much, Audrey ----- Original Message ----- From: <keenebj@juno.com> To: <PENNINGTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 07, 2002 8:07 PM Subject: [Pennington-L] Pennington Groups > Hi Audrey, > The Pennington Groups were begun some years back by the Pennington Family > Research Assn.
