Lois, I do not remember a Lee Pennington (poet), but that is to not say he may not have been there. So many names were speeding past me and the noise I could not remember them all. Being hard of hearing makes it hard to understand or catch everything being said. I can remember William Pennington, Harold Frazier, Shorty Frazier, Red Pennington, Earlene Pennington (married name not sure of) Earlene is the sister to my grandmother and several others. I did see a William Pennington while at the Tompkinsville nursing home to see my aunt Nettie Pennington Frazier. This William was called Lee, he is the son of Joseph Lee Pennington, whom was also called Lee. So not sure if the William at the nursing home is who you speak of. Which he does not need to be there. He is a tough man, has all his whit about him and is very able to move around. Most of you who are aware of Monroe County or live there know about the pipeline explosion some years back. The William Pennington I speak of who is at the nursing home lost his wife and 3 children in the explosion. It is said after the accident William went traveling about and upon returning he didn't have a home so he has since been living at the nursing home. William is the son of my great grandfather's brother. Sorry but I get sidetracked and off to something else while answering a question. Kristie Setser
I know nothing of what you are speaking of here, but would like to say something..this man in the nursing home you say has his wits, well, do both of you a favor and go interview him and write or record everything about family he will tell you. You will be doing him a great deed and your descendants. The company you give him will more tan compensate for what he offers. Don't wait until the history is destroyed. I find all these little notes very interesting. Enjoy and thank you for posting. My Dad is in a nursing home and he does not remember where he came from or his family after we go out the door..but years ago, I took up recording interviews and I now have many to reflect on while enduring this great change in him. That Daddy that raised me is not there anymore, but in my heart , he will always be......Take care of your family in more ways than one.. Sadie Stamper Greer, reading with great interest.
