Janet, Thanks so much for this post! For the first time ever I have found someone with the surname "Sack," and now can begin to see what I can find for the family. "Sack" is a Christian name used in my paternal line down to my grandfather's generation. In my records the first citing of the name is in the line of William Pennington, b. 1715, Sussex Co., Va., d. 1786, Brunswick Co., Va., who m. a Mary Unknown; Their first son was named Sack Pennington (1740 - 1795). William names his son "Sack" as administrator of his will. So was William's wife a Sack? Unfortunately my grandmothers are always getting lost, but this one is really a puzzle, as I can't imagine why a mother would name her son "Sack" unless she was a little strange. Of course, some wannabe genealogist have changed the name in records over time to "Isaac," which may be for all I know. Thanks again for sharing these data, Jemima Gee Morse ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janet Foster" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, January 28, 2000 10:30 PM Subject: [TNCLAIBO-L] Found in library - Tazewell, Tn. > (91) STATE OF TENNESSEE | MAY TERM 1807 > CLAIBORNE COUNTY > =============== > Ordered by the Court that Laurance Marricle be overseer of the Powel's > Valley road from the place where James Rogers now lives to the haw > branch & that he have the following hands Vis____ > > James Rogers................John Berry...............John (?Bowman) > Thos.
