She is the daughter of either Abel (or Albert) PENNINGTON, b. about 1806 in VA. Her mother's given name was likely either Mary, Ellen or Elizabeth, and she was also born in VA. Mary Ann married James T. MARTIN, b. about 1827 in Kanawha Co., VA (present day WVA) on 08 DEC 1853 in Scioto Co., Ohio. They had five children: Euphrates (Frate), b. in 1855, Elihu Hibert, b. 05 FEB 1857, Sarah Alice, b. abt. 1859, Moses Wesley, b. abt. 1862 and Margaret Louella, b. 28 DEC 1863. Her husband James T. died at the end of the Civil War in August of 1865 and is buried in Baltimore, MD. Mary Ann remained in Scioto Co., OH, after her husband's death and raised their children. She died on the 25 JAN 1909 and is buried in the Pine Creek Freewill Baptist Church between Wheelersburg and Powellsville, in Green Twp., Scioto Co.
