Mary > Is there any information on Levi or his son Isaac other than what is on the > web page? Mary, I think the web page reflects just about all we know about Levi and Isaac (1751). The items on Isaac are: ------ 1751 - Isaac Pennington b.c. 1751 (son of Levi) - date estimated by W. P. Johnson, C.G. 1771 - 1771, 4, 27. Isaac rqct Cane Creek MM, N.C. (withheld). New Garden Monthly Meeting (Quaker), Guilford Co., N. C. - Isaac Pennington requested cert. to Cane Creek Mo. Mtg.(withheld). (son of Levi). 1771 - Cumberland/Moore Cos., NC, Levi Pennington bought 200 acres from Nathan Smith 20 July 1771 on Richland Creek. Isaac Pennington was a witness. 1772 - Cumberland/Moore Cos., NC, Levi sold the above 200 acres of land to John McCloud on 1 December 1772. The deed was signed by both Levi and Martha (her mark) Pennington. 1774 - Cumberland/Moore Cos., NC, Levi witnessed a deed of Joseph Duckworth to John HARDEN on 24 Oct 1774. (All from Cumberland Co. records.) 1774 - NOTE - The above three entries for 1771, 1772, and 1774 are from "Miscellaneous Ancient Records of Moore Co., NC," by Rassie E. Wicker, who worked as a land surveyor in that area all of his life. Randolph was right on the border of Cumberland/Moore County. 1775 - 1775, 2, 4. Isaac roc. Cane Creek Monthly Meeting (Quaker), Alamance Co., N.C. - Isaac Pennington received on certificate. 1775 - 1775, 6, 3. Isaac dis mou. Cane Creek Monthly Meeting (Quaker), Alamance Co., N.C. - Isaac Pennington disowned for marriage out of unity. 1785 - Tax List Randolph Co., N. C. Levi Pennington, Sr. 300 acres - 1 white poll - one black poll - on Deep River. Levi Pennington, Jr. 110 acres - one white poll - on Deep River. Isaac Pennington 250 acres - 1 white poll (this line crossed out in the original. WPJ). William Perry Johnson did this research proving that these two Levis were father and son. Whether the "Sr." & "Jr." were used in the original records is unknown. (Penny Floyd). ------ We have noted that Levi Sr. in his WILL of 1789/90 gave 110 acres of land to Levi Jr., however, he did not give any land to Isaac. You will note the two entries above for 1771 and 1772 where Levi bought 200 acres of land and then in 1772 he and Martha sold that same 200 acres. My *speculation* is that this land was bought for Isaac (he was a witness on the purchase), however something happened and the land was sold. At the time of the purchase, Isaac was apparently about 21 years of age and may have just married. There was a Ruth Pennington who we speculate may have been Isaac's daughter. Did Isaac's (first) wife die in childbirth?? We also note that Isaac was "disowned by the Quakers for marriage out of unity" in 1775. Was this his second marriage?? In 1785 tax list Isaac apparently owned (or had owned) 250 acres of land in Randolph Co. - maybe he moved again since that line was crossed out in the original. It is possible that Levi Sr. bought this 250 acres and gave it to Isaac before 1785 and thus did not mention it in his will. There are reports of another female in this area b.c. 1790's who may have also been Isaac's daughter?? I am afraid this raises more questions about Isaac than answers but maybe this will stimulate some thinking and digging among our Group VI researchers.
