    1. [PENNINGTON-L] Re: Wells Pennington-reply- Audrey and Sadie
    2. Dear Audrey, Sadie, and List members, The Wells Pennington of Group 32 was born ca. 1781 in NC according to June B. Bork's Vol. 3, which abstracts the 1850 census (HH# 287)of Wayne Co.KY. In 1850 his wife Elizabeth was living with him. She was listed as born ca. 1779 in MD. At present we don't have actual proof of her last name but it is believed she was a Strunk. However, the 1860 Census of Pulaski Co.KY (HH#634) from the book publ. by the Pulaski Co.Hist. Soc. has Wells born ca. 1779 in VA. He is living with Theophilus Pennington and wife Penelope Pennington. Wells' wife Eliz. is not present and may be the Eliz. Pennington who died in 1852 in Wayne Co.KY according to Bork's Vol. 2, p. 388. Theophilus is believed to be Wells' son and he is listed in 1860 as being born in NC ca. 1802. His wife, Penelope is listed as born ca. 1801 in NC. The confusion about NC vs. VA may result from the family living on or adjacent to, the county/state line between Grayson Co. VA and Ashe Co. NC (previously Wilkes Co.). In re: to Sadie's Wells Pennington, I wonder if he was the Wells Pennington who was born in the 1870's and filed an Eastern Cherokee Application around 1906-1908? This Wells is alleged to have descended from the Blevins family. I forget his ancestry but contact me Sadie if you want me to dig more ( [email protected]). I am also very curious about a Wells Pennington who is alleged to have been buried in Azen Cem in VA. Anyone who knows who that Wells is, I'd appreciate it if you'd post that info to the lists. Thanks. Barbara Temple Group 12 Leader Group 32 Member
