Well, that's how my gr grandfather S.B. Pennington was. What you have to take into account is how why their ancestors came to the frontier of KY. Of course not all of them were this way, I mean by all accounts Daniel Boone for example was not necessarily getting away from Civilization it was more the "What's over the next hill?" But some of those people were getting away from the different Governments that had been involved in their Ancestor's lives. The French, The English, and then along comes this new Democracy that had some great points but also had some confusing points. For example the Whiskey Rebellion. Some of these people in the hills of KY, TN even the Carolina's didn't trust Government. My gr grandfather didn't trust them and then after the crash of 1930 he really had a reason to not trust bankers, it didn't put too much 'stock' in them as it was but . . . I don't know sometimes I get to thinking they ask too many questions. I remember one census my mom and dad did back in the 60's and it had a whole bunch of questions. Some were rather ridiculous. Of course, yes to those of us who do the research of the past it's fascinating. Like for example watching a documentary on the bathroom habits of the Romans, but how do you think those Romans would react to our curiousity?
