First, I am the gggranddaughter of Elizabeth PENNINGTON b. circa 1822 and married sometime in mid to late 1840's (by birthdates of children) to James R. (or K) HUGHES. They are first found by me in 1850 in Jackson County TN census living next to Uriah PENNINGTON. The name is spelled HUES on the census instead of HUGHES. Children of James and Elizabeth that I know of were: Nancy J. b. circa 1842 in TN (married a SNODGRASS in AR on Feb 15, 1860) John W. b. circa 1844....was a preacher in Benton/Wash County, AR Cynthia A. b, circa1846 in TN...married a HAWKINS Abram b. 21 Jan 1849 in Jackson County, TN married Mary "Mollie" Rowan McKinney....and lived in Salem AR most of his married life. Lydia b. 01 Apr 1852 in TN married Joseph LUDIKER in MO and died in Boise, ID in 1940 S. M. (per census in AR 1860) male William Kennedy b. 14 Mar 1856 in Franklin County, AR..married Sarah Elizabeth DEARING in Washington County, AR in 1881. James J. b. 1858 in AR. I find James in MO in 1870...but Elizabeth is not with him...he has remarried to a Caroline Carter who was a widow...living in household of her daughter and son-in-law...George and Melvina GOODNIGHT. I am assuming that Elizabeth died. I also found an Abraham HUGHES living next to a PENNINGTON in Jackson County, TN in 1840. Now.....I have copied and pasted an email I received last year in hopes someone see see something that will help.... Please see below...and let me know if anyone has any ideas. Thanks so much!!!! and HAPPY NEW YEAR Judie <<Hi Linda and Everyone, (Linda, please forward again for me.) Regarding Elizabeth Pennington, daughter of Samuel and Lydia Pennington, I did not have much information on her other than name and birthdate. It appears probable that she is the same as the Elizabeth "Nettie" Pennington Hughes. If I remember correctly, most of Samuel's children named one daughter Lydia. So this would seem to tie her to Samuel's family. Also, Elizabeth had a brother named William and a sister named Nancy (see below). Of course, this is all just speculation on my part, but it appears very likely they are related. At any rate, Samuel and Lydia were married 28 May 1815 in Cumberland County, KY (now Monroe County). Samuel, of course, being a son of Simeon Pennington and Elizabeth "Betsy" Pate Pennington. Samuel was born abt 1792; and Lydia (Unknown) was born about 1792 in Tennessee, and died between 1860 and 1870 in Jackson County, TN. Samuel was married to Ruth (Unknown) by the time of the 1870 Census. Ruth was born about 1804 in South Carolina. There are no records of any children born to the second marriage. Besides, they both were pretty elderly by 1870. As far as Penningtons migrating to Arkansas, I am not sure about that. But I do know that Clinton Plumlee and Nancy Pennington Plumlee went to Arkansas (see below). There were a lot of Plumlees, as well as other families, from Jackson County that ended up in that State. Here are the children (that I have listed) of Samuel Pennington and Lydia (Unknown) Pennington (all born in Jackson County, TN): 1) Mary "Polly" Pennington born abt 1817; married abt 1836 to John Garner; and died before 1860 in Jackson County, TN. 2) William Pennington born 1819; married abt 1840 to Mary (Unknown). 3) Elizabeth Pennington born abt 1821. 4) Welcome Pennington born 10 January 1823; married abt 1844 to Mahala Moore; and died 6 April 1908 in Clay County, TN. 5) Nancy Pennington born 1825; married abt 1845 to Clinton Plumlee; and died in 1908 in Compton, Arkansas. 6) Jane "Jenny" Pennington born September 1830; married 1855 to Job Plumlee. 7) Unknown Daughter Pennington born abt 1832. From records that I have searched, there appears to be some confusion regarding the last two daughters that I have listed above. And I have seen the dates and information concerning them mixed-up. But according to Census records there were definitely two daughters. I hope that this information will help a little bit. At the very least, it will give Judy a starting point for more research. I will write more later this weekend. Best Regards, Jim Short>> --part1_0.731c7a9c.25a38351_boundary--
