Gene Pennington (Group 7) Research Director Pennington Research Association www.penningtonresearch.org =========================================================== Query: Who was the husband of Margaret Pennington (1756 NC - 1825 Franklin Co., TN)? In 1820 John B. Palmer, born 1771 Rowan Co., NC, purchased a tract of land in Franklin Co., TN. He and his wife Sarah Rich Palmer, along with their daughter and son-in-law Eli B. Weddington and an older lady named Margaret Pennington (believed to be Sarah Rich Palmer's mother) had migrated to TN from Rowan Co. Would like to learn the name of the husband of Margaret Pennington. Her tombstone in the Walnut Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Franklin Co. is inscribed: In memory of Margaret Pennington who departed this life May 1825 Aged 69 years The tombstone next to Margaret's is inscribed: In memory of John B. Palmer who departed this life Oct 1825 Aged 54 years These two tombstones have identical decorative carving on the top and are worded alike. John B. Palmer was married ca. 1795 to Sarah Rich of Rowan Co., NC. Sarah's parents were Isaac and Margaret Rich. Isaac died in Rowan Co. in 1787, had a will recorded there, and was buried in the Eaton Church Cemetery, which is in present-day Davie Co., NC. Did his widow Margaret (whose maiden name is unknown) marry a second time to a Mr. Pennington? According to Caleb Osborne's tax list of 1761, there were two Ephriam Penningtons living near the Forks of the Yadkin River in Rowan Co. in an area that is now Davie Co. This is the same area where the Richs, Palmers, and Weddingtons lived. Any leads will be appreciated. Joy Q. Gallagher Winchester, Franklin Co., TN
