    3. James W. Pennington MOUNTAIN CITY -- James W. Pennington, 78, of 192 Holy Hill Road passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at his residence. He was a native of Johnson County and a son of the late Emmitt Harrison Pennington and Callie Alice King Pennington and was proceeded in death by two brothers, Bill and Butler Pennington. He was a member of the St. Anns Catholic Church, Boone, N.C., and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having received the Purple Heart. He was a member of DAV Chapter 40 and VFW Post 6908. Survivors: special friend, Ruby Guthrie of Erwin, Tenn.; one son, Herbert Wayne Pennington of Japan; two daughters, Eula Mae Richards of Bristol, Tenn., and Barbara Poe of Shady Valley, Tenn.; three brothers, Herbert Pennington of Columbus, Ga., Ernest Pennington of Mountain City and Ray Pennington of Mountain City; five grandchildren, Heather Marie Richards of Charlotte, N.C., Wendy Mono Pennington of Japan, Ian Taro Pennington of Japan, Angela Little of Elizabethton, Mark Ward of Elizabethton and Desie Ward of Mountain City; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Reece to officiate. Military graveside services and burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be VFW Post 6908. Honorary pallbearers will be staff of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn., and Dr. Donald Walters. The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel. Friends may call at the residence, 192 Holy Hill Road, Mountain City, at any time. Hux-Lipford Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
