SMYTH COUNTY NEWS & MESSENGER Notices for 28 November 2001 Hayes Ethel P. "Ett" Hayes, age 80, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001. Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Mae Pennington; three brothers, June Pennington, Woody Pennington, and Ray Pennington. She was a lifelong member of the Marion Seventh Day Adventist Church and worked for many years on the OB ward at Smyth County Community Hospital. Surviving are her husband, Everett Hayes; five sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Betty Jo Hayes, Doug and Glenda Hayes, Gene Hayes, Gerald and Patty Hayes, Duane and Sharon Hayes; and Tessie Hayes; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Georgia Pennington; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bow and Doc Haga, Geraldine and Crick Johnson, and Kitty and Curtis Anderson; two sisters-in-law, Merchie Pennington and Agnes Pennington. Funeral services will be held today, Nov. 28, at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Garland Day and the Rev. Harry Howe officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. A family graveside service will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Laurel Valley Cemetery in Konnarock.
