    1. Re: PENNINGTON
    2. Hello! You may already be aware of this information, but if not, I hope you find it useful: I belong to a nation wide group with about 400 active members, called the Pennington Research Association (PRA) whose purpose is to gather and exchange data on the Pennington family. The PRA home page address is: (for PRA membership info including snail mail address and application) ---- http://users.aol.com/SPRIVETT/prahome.htm Snail mail address to check a name, write to: Mary A. Kirby, Editor, PRA, 1722 Spring Lake Dr., Arlington, TX., 76012. Sometimes they can check right away for you. Other times they will publish your inquiry in their semi-annual publication (Pennington Pedigrees) as a query. Be sure to include your own name and address and information about the ancestor you are researching. "Snail mail" address (regular mail) to join the PENNINGTON RESEARCH ASSOCIATION is: PENNINGTON RESEARCH ASSOCIATION, Dr. Robert S. Laubach, Membership Chair, 226 Stratford St., Syracuse, NY, 13210. If you wish to join, the dues are $23 per calendar year (you receive two issues of Pennington Pedigrees and two issues of the Pennington Courier free of charge). Make check payable to PENNINGTON RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. I hope this helps. 2. Hello; It may that I have posted here before, I do not rmemeber. However, about 15 or more years ago, I subscribed to "Pennington Pedigrees" and they used to refer to different lineages and branches with numbers, and that is what has caught my eye. So, can you tell me how you arrived at the number and how you are able to keep track so as to give a person the number of the line that he belongs to. The reason I ask is that I'd like to do something like that for several of my lines for which I have mailing lists. ========================================== More below ========================================== > From our file, it appears that Arthur Milton is a descendant of PRA >Group VIII. It is my husband's >lineage. > Sandra, I stand to be corrected - but it is my understanding that the PENNINGTON RESEARCH ASSOCIATION tried various systems to try to keep up with the different UNCONNECTED lineages and they finally settled on the group numbers. As I understand, when a PATRIARCH was found where his parents could not be identified and when he had substantial descendants, he was assigned the next available group number for identification. The number itself is NOT significant except to divide the lineages where links to other groups cannot be found. The groups were numbered as they were identified. Later if a link to another group is proven, the groups involved are combined into one. The goal is to combine all groups into one - then we will have discovered ALL of the PENNINGTON genealogy. It is the belief of many knowledgeable researchers that all PENNINGTONs came from one common ancestor in the 12th century. Finding a person's group number is done by identifiying that person or one of his ancestors in previously researched data which has resulted in him or his ancestor being placed in a specific group. There are currently 27 PENNINGTON groups. From the limited info here on your Robert (b.c. 1763 NC), it APPEARS that he is a descendant in Group I, Ephraim PENNINGTON, b.c. 1605 in England, emigrated c. 1643 to New Haven, CT, and d.c. 1660/61 at New Haven. Hope this helps. Bobby ---------------- Bobby Pennington Charleston, SC <bobbypennington@juno.com> <bobpenn@bellsouth.net>

    3. Bobby, thanks a million for posting the obit of Arthur Pennington. He was my Dad's 1st cousin. I'd always hoped to bump into him some day over around Arkadelphia, but never got around to it. He was the son of my great Uncle Jack Pennington, who was the son of James Buchanan "Buck" Pennington who ran away from his home in Henryville, TN at the age of 11, around 1867, and followed one of his uncles to Clark Co., AR. Buck died at age 34, or something like that, but he must have a couple of thousand descendants. However, of his 44 grandkids, fewer and fewer remain. I'd imagine there's only 10-12 left. Anyway, by all accounts, Arthur was a great old guy. I'm sure he'll be missed. Rod Pennington Temple, TX Group 8 (Clark/Dallas Co., AR branch) PS-what information did you consult to see where Arthur fit in? 3. Greetings cousins... The Pennington Research Association web site has had some recent updates including a link to directions for accessing the archived mail that has been posted to this group. An effort is being made to work up the details to access the old messages when we were are Maiser, but that is still in progress. (I could use a some help if someone has a desire to index the old Maiser messages.) The archives of this group since our move to rootsweb are searchable... so If you are looking for info on Levi Pennington... you can get a computer generated list of all the mail that has the name Levi in it... Then you can request the appropriate posting. The membership page has also been updated to reflect the new co-chairs of membership, Chuck and Barbara Pennington. A big thank you for their continiued efforts both of hosting the Reunion last weekend, and now taking on the job of membership chair. If you've sent me something recently to be updated, and you don't see it done yet... send me a "friendly reminder" It may be that I just haven't gotten to it, or I may not have the info for whatever reason. -- Steve Privett Pennington Research Association http://users.aol.com/SPRIVETT/prahome.htm

    2. Dear Will Brown et al, The Pennington researcher, who is a gateway to other researchers, for the Penningtons of Cecil Co., MD, DE and surrounding regions during the 17th century is Sybil (Pennington) Hampton, 1007 Ivy Lane, Waldorf, MD, 20602. Sybil is a member of the PRA Group 26: Descendants of William Pennington, Sr. (c1750-1821) of Monroe Co., VA/WV. The Cecil Co., MD, Penningtons were of one clan whom we can trace back to at least the 1690s. We believe this is the source of the Pennington men who settled in West Virginia highlands before 1800, all of whom had Cecil Co. and/or DE links. 1. About William Hyland Pennington
    2. Pennington researchers, Some of you asked about more info for William Hyland Pennington, I don't have much on him, I have a couple of census documents for his daughter Adelaide that said her father was born in Deleware and her mother in Maine, Last week I got her marriage certificate to Alexander Charles Thompson which told me these names . William Hyland Pennington is plainly written. Adelaide's mothers maiden name is not and so I can not be sure of the spelling. I would estimate that William Hyland Pennington may have been born about 1845 -1855 This is what I originally wrote: My great grandmother's name was Adelaide R. Pennington who was supposed to have been born in ?? Illinois about 1875 or 1876 - she first married ? Pratt then Alexander Charles Thompson 9, April 1901 Victoria B.C. Canada Her Father was William Hyland Pennington supposedly born in Deleware and her mother was Augusta (can't be sure of the Handwriting) possibly spelled Causeus ) Augusta was supposedly born in Maine. If you have any info that might help with these Pennington's please let me know. Thankyou, Lori
