This mail list is currently set so that when anyone hits the reply button it goes directly to the sender and not the list. This is the recommendatin for a list with many many posts and many more people than we have in an effort to reduce some traffic. I have been thinking of changing it so that responses are also sent to the list population to encourage more discussion and also as an archiving tool. All of the messages posted to the list are archived and searchable, so as a query re. Elizabeth Pennington was made, if I change the default, then we all can see the responses and also they will be archived for furture research... My posting regarding Rachel Pennington Beeson is a great example... The LDS records show her as a descendant of Isaac Pennington, yet there has been extensive research efforts by Carrie Beth Lowe that tend to dispute that with what I consider very credible conclusions. By archiving her response, it makes the efforts of her research accessable by others and does not perpetuate the apparent error in the LDS records. Any thoughts or comments?? Based on the responses I get, I will either leave it as it is, or change it so that replies are typically sent to the entire list. So PLEASE send me your thoughts and feel free to post them to the list for open discussion. -- Steve Privett mailto:eqretrodr@earthlink.net http://home.earthlink.net/~eqretrodr/index.html
Steve and the list, This list needs something to promote a little more informality and exchange, and that which you propose would probably do it. I have normally been answering messages privately because that is what most other lists require - because of the volume involved. However, we do not have the volume here on the PENNINGTON list, so either way is fine with me. I know how to change addressing if I want it to go to the list or vice-versa. Regards, Bobby Pennington Charleston, SC
I would prefer posting to the list. I have found more relatives through others' posts to lists than I have through direct responses to inquiries. Kathy
I'm a member of the PRA's Group 11. I descend from a William Pennington as follows: William Pennington, b. 1763 Abel Pennington, b. 1789 James Washington Pennington, b. 1819 Able Pennington, M.D., b. 1851 Roy Harvey Pennington, b. 1890 Roy Cobern Pennington (my father), b. 1918 I believe William and Abel were born in NC, but everyone else was born in eastern KY--Lawrence, Elliott, Carter Counties. There are some James Hayden Penningtons in my line, but they are too early to be you and I don't have any Carlos Penningtons. Are we related? Tina Borrus
I have a Pennington in my background that we have been unable to find much information on. Her name was Elizabeth Pennington and she was probably born in the abt 1839 and died April 18, 1867. She was married to Alexander Monroe Dollar who was born in August of 1839 and died August 14, 1907. They were married in January 18, 1857. They had three children: Emeline Dollar, John Dooley (Dula) Dollar, 10/3/1863 (my great-great grandfather) and Roby Smith Dollar, 4/18/1867. Her father is Levi Pennington and her mother's name is also Elizabeth, we think. They would probably be in the geographic area of the Carolinas or Tennessee. If you have any information, I would certainly be very appreciative. Thank you, Carmen Johnson Home Page: http://www.bayside.net/users/carmenj email: carmenj@msn.com or carmenj@bayside.net
I'm looking for Joseph Pennington and Letitia B. Pennington of Lincoln Co., MO. According to sources I have they had a daughter Melvina Jane Pennington who married a Skinner. They lived in Warren Co., MO and Melvina is buried in Jonesburg, MO. The problem with Joseph and Letitia being her parents is that she was born in 1827 and they didn't marry until 1834 somewhere in MO. We tend to think they were married somewhere in Lincoln Co. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Betty Fleener Buena Vista, CO -- later..... B.
My great grandmother was Rachael PENNINGTON, probably the daughter of A.J. and Nancy PENNINGTON, who were noted in the 1850 census for Izard County, Arkansas. A.J. PENNINGTON later moved to Clark County, Arkansas. While in Izard County, they were neighbors of A.J. GEORGE, probably my g-great grandfather. The GEORGE family was from Haywood County, Tennessee, and earlier from Lincoln County, Tennessee. I also noted the following information on PENNINGTONs in Haywood County, Tennessee. Brownsville Tax Lists 1845, District 1 Harmon PENNINGTON 1846, District 1 James PENNINGTON 1848, District 1, Harmon, James, and Samuel PENNINGTON 1849, District 1, James PENNINGTON Relationship unknown. Any information on these families would be gratly appreciated. Monte George

Unfortunately, my records also show this William died Oct 1801 in Lee County, Virginia. William's 9th child was William Nelson Pennington, born 24 Sep 1806, married Delilah Caudill. How about posting your husbands complete Pennington line and we'll see how it matches up. Paul Pennington Augusta, Georgia

I find in the PRA New Member info a statement under Group 18 that states "Sir Isaac Pennington of London had only one known descendant who was an early emigrant to what is now the United States." However I also see that Rachel Pennington and Edward Beeson's first child, Isaac Beeson, was born abt 1677 in Chester Co PA. Can anyone shed some light on this apparent conflict? -- Steve Privett mailto:eqretrodr@earthlink.net Pennington Research Association http://users.aol.com/SPRIVETT/prahome.htm

Hi there!!! I have seen a lot of postings for Pennington's in EARLY WV counties, meaning when it was VA, 1700-1800 era. I know that many of these counties were formed from GREENBRIER county and I have some lookup references for Greenbrier County, and will be glad to do lookups and post to the group! Emphasize the EARLY, nothing much in my records after the civil war era, as it was sealed, many of my WV historical books are antiques, in the 1915 era. What the heck, I'll try it.... Research note for those researching Penningtons in Knox Co., KY in the early 19th century. Be aware that Knox County, KY, is one of the confusing areas of Pennington research. There were at least TWO unrelated Pennington clans living in Knox County, KY (later Whitley Co., KY) before 1820. One is that branch as listed below. The other was made up of four, possibly five, children of William Pennington, Sr. (1755-1821) who settled in Monroe Co., VA/WV by at least 1798. William's children who moved to Knox Co., KY, from Monroe Co., VA/WV before 1820 were: Asa and Elizabeth (Pennington) Ellison, Sr.; William and Susannah (Nossman) Pennington, Jr.; Andrew and Sarah (Thomas) Pennington, and possibly George Pennington and Rencenvey Pennington. All lived on the Clear Fork of the Cumberland River in Knox Co. Elizabeth (Pennington) Ellison lived next to her brother William Penninton, Jr.; both lived in the region until after 1860, as shown by tax records and federal censuses. For more information about these descendants of William Pennington, Sr., the progenitor of Pennington Research Association's Group 26, please contact me: Ric Blake, 123 Fieldstone Dr., Londonderry, NH 03053-2709 ----------------------------------------------------------- Reference here is in response to a message dated 8/1/97 3:27:09 AM, that was posted: <<Paul Albert Pennington, 20 Oct 1942, Winfield KS Charles Albert Pennington, 16 Mar 1212, Pleasant Hill, MO Albert Ernest Pennington, 17 Jan 1874, East Lynne, MO John Pennington, 29 Jun 1840, Carter Co., KY Jonathan Pennington, 18 May 1818, Knox Co., KY--------------------- Abel Pennington, 20 Aug 1789, SC William Pennington, 1763/1765 NC>>
