There are several new mailing lists which may be of interest to you. The name lists are - DANN-LOCKWOOD-SLAGLE-VANSCOY-WALLER. The locality list is VAALBEMA-L and all are at RootsWeb. The locality list is open to discussion of the Albemarle County "AREA" of Virginia. Discussions will include any county line that touches Albemarle as well as counties that were split off of Albemarle Co., VA. OK, good news: your mailing list is ready to roll. Briefly (very), people can subscribe to your list in mail mode by sending a message to XXXXXX-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else. If they prefer digest mode, they should send the command instead to XXXXXX-D-request@rootsweb.com. To unsubscribe, they should send the command "unsubscribe" to XXXXXX-L-request@rootsweb.com (if in mail mode) or XXXXXX-D-request@rootsweb.com (if in digest mode.) To switch from one mode to the other, they should unsubscribe from one and then subscribe to the other. There is no "no mail" mode -- if they want messages to stop, they should simply unsubscribe. To post to both XXXXXX-L and XXXXXX-D, messages should be sent to XXXXXX-L@rootsweb.com. Messages sent there will appear both places. Hi Cousins, Does anyone know the three words that are on the coat of arms? Not having one myself, I cannot make out the words on my computer screen. Any history of the coat would also be interesting. William Pennington
Does anyone have an Ethel Pennington in their tree? She was married to George Scott in 1894 in Fulton Co., OH. She and George had at least three children: Nellie Gertrude, Helen, and Howard. Any bit of info would be wonderful! Thanks, Cassie Langley Brown clnholly@aol.com aisling@aol.com
Please, can anyone help me with information on James Pennington, probably born between 1850 and 1860. Had at least two sons, by two different marriages, names David Henry and Virgil. David was born in Larue County, KY. This will be my link-up to the existing tree, so any help will be much appreciated. Thanks, Linda Koenig
Does anyone out there happen to know who the parents of William Hyland Pennington are? He was born 20 Jan 1847 @ Wilmington, DE. Died 11 Jan 1932 @ Orting , WA. Dear Pat Saletore, and the List: The Richard Pennington Family of Pendleton County, WVA you're interested in was submitted to Pennington Pedigrees many many years ago by Dorris Pennington Knibb in PP Vol. III, p.31. The article was extremely well done, and the research was referenced. Dorris Knib is a list member, but so far as I know, has not added to the information contained in the article. It appears that Richard Pennington, like Elijah Pennington (Louise Throop's family) who lived in Hampshire County, is of the Maryland/Delaware Penningtons. Richard of Pendleton County has many similarities to my own family of Pennington/Pembertons who seem to have left the Cecil County area and headed west, first into Baltimore County, then into the panhandle of West Virginia and Belmont/Guernsey counties in Ohio. A fourth segment seems to be a Pennington family that lived in Greene and Washington Counties in western Pennsylvania, intermarrying with a family of Litzenbergs. Because of the given name similarities between Richard, and the Cecil families I believe they may be connected to my Pennington/Pembertons whose names in Belmont/Guernsey Counties include Richard, William, Otho and John. In Baltimore County there are Henry Jr. and Sr., John, William and Joshua. Henry Pemberton appears in Baltimore County around 1747 when his daughter Ann is baptized. His family sort of fades from view after the Penningtons appear in Belmont and Guernsey Counties, OH after serving in the War of 1812 from Baltimore County, MD. Sons and grandchildren Henry, William and Joshua are mentioned in deeds. Lori has recently contributed a great deal to the effort to unravel some of the mistaken computerized information that is appearing everywhere. Her data will help to re-establish what is correct within the research on these families. I hope to help too. Dorris' article, published in 1971 establishes the information for Pendleton County. What is needed is concerted effort on the earlier information which will provide the links to the later western-moving families. WVA deeds might help determine more informatio on the notation in Dorris' article that a Henry Jr. and Sr. and a Joshua Pennington were also in Pendleton County and appear in 1790 on the List of Titheables. There are still Pennington families living near Dry Fork, WVA who are descendants of Richard Pennington. One who has collected Pennington information similar to Dorris Knibb's is even named Richard Pennington. Your Cousin, Carolyn

PLEASE DON'T DELETE YET!!! PLEASE READ TO THE END!!! There is a computer virus that is being sent across the Internet. If you receive an e-mail message with the subject line "Free Money," DO NOT read the message. DELETE it immediately, UNPLUG your computer, then BURN IT to ASHES in a government-approved toxic waste disposal INCINERATOR. Once a computer is infected, it will be TOO LATE. After the virus sends COPIES of itself to ALL your friends, your computer will begin to emit a vile ODOR. Then it will secrete a foul, milky DISCHARGE. Verily, it shall SCREECH with the tortured, monitor-shattering SCREAM of 1,000 hell-scorched souls, drawing much unwanted attention to your cubicle from co-workers and supervisors alike. After violently ripping itself from the wall, your computer will punch through your office window as it STREAKS into the night, HOWLING like a BANSHEE. Once free, it will spend the rest of its days TORTURING household PETS and MOCKING the POPE. Some filthy, disgusting miscreant ... some no-good, low-down, good-for-nothing DIRTY SNAKE, in twisted pursuit of his own sadistic dreams, is sending this virus across the Net via an e- mail entitled "Free Money." What is so terrifying about this virus is that you do not even to have to open the e-mail for it to activate. In fact, you do not even need to RECEIVE the e- mail. You do not even need to OWN a COMPUTER. "Free Money" can infect even minor HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES. ** How it does this with straight ASCII code is, frankly, a matter of some debate ... but BELIEVE YOU US, if this weren't a SERIOUS situation, we wouldn't be discussing it in ALL CAPS. So for the LOVE OF GOD, forward this e-mail to all those you claim to care about, all those you purport to love. Don't do it later! Do it NOW! Now! Now! NOW! NOW!! (PS If you haven't figured it out yet, this is a joke. It is, however, just as truthful as all the other email virus hoaxes that well-meaning folks are sending along) Have a great day! :-) -Walker
My great-grandfather was David Henry Pennington from Larue County, KY, probably born in the early 1880's (my previous information was incorrect - I'd been told William David.) He had a half-brother, Virgil Pennington. Their father was James Pennington, who came to Larue County, KY from Pennington Gap, VA (Lee County), probably born betw. 1850 and 1860. Does anyone have information that ties in with these men, especially James? Thanks so much, Linda Koenig
To all those on the mailing lists who recieved the "bogus" virus warning- Please accept my sincere apology....I had recieved several of the same messages from many sources at the beginning of the week, but had not considered passing them on until my husband came home from work last night and advised me that the computer engineering department at his office had warned all of their employees about these viruses. He is in tech support for a major computerized phone system so I naturally figured they must know what they were talking about. Also, this morning there was an expanded version of one of them which advised that all of the people on a mailing list could be infected by anyone opening one of these messages. That was the "straw that broke this camel's back" and I felt I should let everyone know before all of those hard won and carefully researched records were wiped out. Thank you to all those who responded with site information on viruses. I now know where to go the check these things out before I panic again. Again, please accept my apologies and if any of the list owners would like me to unsubscibe I would be happy to do so. I now have the reddest face in Florida and I didn't get it from the sun! Sincerely, Susan MicKey
While I don't like the idea of having specific rules for this list, there are certain things that do not belong here. This list is for the posting and discussion of genealogy relating to the Pennington name and the activities of the Pennington Research Assoication. Do not post virus warnings, solicitations, new web sites or new list announcements to this list. There are other lists for each of these topics. -- Steve Privett mailto:eqretrodr@earthlink.net Pennington Research Association http://users.aol.com/SPRIVETT/prahome.htm
a forwarded followup as requested. Subject: Follow-up to 7/11 From: LMytinger@aol.com Okay and I just heard from a Kimbrough researcher that my Rev John Turner died in Alabama. Family tradition stated somewhere in MO but after scouring through endless records did not find a John Turner. If this John Turner is my Rev John Turner then that makes sort of a circle with all these collateral lines of Bolling, Turner, Baker and Pennington. Also Andrew Baker and Micajah were constables in Wilkes County NC-a passing family tradition? I have a good feeling there is something here but not sure how to piece together as I don't have entire collateral line information. But here's a suggestion. There are several "lost" Baker/Bolling researchers on a new Rootsweb group and we are sharing family stories and data trying to "sew up" or search out further clues to uncovering the lines. The Penningtons are right in there with the data and perhaps you would want to participate. This is a fast-paced and apparently very expereinced group of people on this list with enormous depth of data on Bakers and Bollings with your Pennington knowledge perhaps clues and answers could develop. Leslie Gunter is thelistmaster: Lgunter@psn.net. To subscribe to the list just e-mail BAKER_BOLIN-L@rootsweb.com and type in subscribe. Write Leslie for past e-mails which has great data and background. Let her know I sent you. Only serious researchers are desired. Perhaps if you posted a few of the early VA/NC/KY Pennington/Baker or Pennington/Bolling(Bowling,Bolin,etc) marraiges we can identify those on the list who are linked to Penningtons which I think are several. Just wish we had an in-depth Turner researcher in this group. (For 3 generations my family has been trying to solve this Turner line...but the ones before didn't have the internet!) Anyway, your thoughts are welcomed and desired. Think the discussion group may help PRA too. Regards, LauraDee -- Steve Privett mailto:eqretrodr@earthlink.net http://home.earthlink.net/~eqretrodr/index.html
Forwarded as requested:: Subject: Plz Forward to PRA Date: Tue, 26 Aug 1997 15:22:00 -0400 (EDT) From: LMytinger@aol.com To: eqretrodr@earthlink.net Hi Steve, Thought I'd pass this letter onto you as it was returned to me. It's for PRA regarding the possible connection of 7/11 groups. Thanks! LauraDee Subject: 7/11-A Match? Perhaps it's been thought about already. And now with my Baker/Bolling/Turner collateral lines it seems more likely. Could Micajah Pennington be the father of Abel Pennington? My colateral lines point to this and now I'm trying to shuffle through all these blasted papers to find the supporting data. Maybe Micajah moved or traveled to South Carolina or something. Evidently Micajah Pennington and Andrew Baker who served in VA during Rev War and located to NC were friends. Andrew reportedly married a Mary Mollie Bolling. The Turners then blend in the next generation but there may have been a previous association in VA. Has any research been done about this possible link? I'm aPRA member of group 11. Mary Pennington married a William West. Their daughter Hannah married a William Turner. Please let me know. LauraDee P.S. Still haven't found squat on William West. Do your records have anything? Thanks again! -- Steve Privett mailto:eqretrodr@earthlink.net Pennington Research Association http://users.aol.com/SPRIVETT/prahome.htm
