Steve, Just a thought, as I too would like the photos. But, I am sure you will get many such requests. Can you be sure to post the address to the new web site, the one with the pics on the list so that we can follow your footsteps there and see them? I live in an area where the books on genealogy is limited. Most libraries that have out-of-print books will not loan out the books, so when I can and if available, I purchase the books for myself. Like so many of us have had to do. To get to the point, I would like to make a suggestion. If you are willing, could you offer lookups from materials you have in your possession and list it? This would help others who can't afford the materials. I don't have much at the moment, but would like to offer my help to anyone who needs it. I'm hoping others will follow. To keep the mail down on the Pennington mailing list please contact me personally at [email protected] I don't want to upset anyone on the list with extra mail. So, if anyone is interested, I have the following books for lookups. Gene has asked that Inot post anything to the web site any more.... I've got the pages ready to go along with many many pages of "vault type data" that I'd love to upload. Until I get an ok from Gene however, it will have to wait. If the approval doesn't come from Gene, I will start another site with all the Pennington stuff I have ready to upload including the pictures. Hi Cousins, Back in March I asked Steve Privett if it would be appropriate for me to send him some Muncaster pictures to post on the PRA web site. Since I could not send them as attachments to the list, I thought this would be the easiest way that the most people could see them. Although Steve assured me they would be posted within weeks, his work on the PRA site including adding the search engine and other research have taken his time. With the Y2K approaching, during the next month, I will be glad to send the ".jpg" pictures to anyone who wants them. There are 9 pictures ranging in size from 30 to 100 Kb. Pictures of interest include the monument at the spot where Henry IV was found and Tom Fools tree. Others include different views of Muncaster, the emblem over the front door, etc. E-mail me directly and I can tell you more and/or send them. Better yet if Gene or Steve could put them on the site everyone could see them, but keep in mind they are very busy. Happy holidays to all.
Bill Pennington, PRA Group 31, I think that you are referring to Susannah Nosseman Pennington. According to the late Arville Oliver, Susannah Nosseman was born ca. 1790. She married William Pennington 5 JUNE 1808 in Monroe County, VA (now WVA). Susannah died October 13, 1834 in Whitley County, KY and is buried in Wolf Creek Cemetary. Wanda Howard
Dear bpboston, I would love to have photographs of Muncaster Castle. You may send them to jerrydayle @aol.com. Thank you very much for offering them. Did you take them personally? Jerry Pennington
Well, maybe this will help some of yuns, and it might solve a mystery that my family talks about often. Shake Boles Pennington, my gr grandfather, was one of the sons of Daniel Rufus Pennington. One of his brothers (Shake) was Purtle Pennington, named after one of Daniel's brothers. Anyways Purtle had a "tiff" with his family regarding his wife and left Kentucky and was never heard from again. I don't know if he changed his name but he probably was angry enough to. Perhaps some of you are descended from this Purtle Pennington.

With this information and the will of James Jenkins, dated Dec 1763, it would appear that sometime after 1763 Eleanor married Richard Pennington. We know that Richard Pennington Jr., born in 1770. Which would have made Eleanor, 45 years old at the time? Which makes me think that either Richard married an older woman or the Richard's birth date of 1745 could be wrong? Could he also been about the same age as Eleanor? Any advice or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Debbie
Recently I got a letter from a lady researching a family from Clearfield and Center Co. PA. She says the surname is Bennington, but this is not Bennington country. However, I do find Penningtons in Clearfield. I'll be doing some more research as the family is quite sketchy so far. Does anyone recognize this family? [email protected] Catherine Bennington (Pennington?) b. 28 Dec 1837 Center Co. PA, d. 20 Jul 1911, buried Rose Hill Cemetery, Dixon Co. NE. She married Adam MCPHERRAN, b. 20 Jan 1832 in Huntindon Co. PA, died 16 Dec 1891 (?). They had: Susannah, Robert, Stewart A., Mary Katerine, Nora, Rebecca, Hannah Molly, George Raymond and Adams. George Raymond was born in 1867 in Iowa or Indiana. The family moved to Nebraska about 1870. I found them on the 1860 census of Chest Twp., Clearfield Co. PA. Found several of the children in 1900 in Nebraska. I checked every line of Dakota and Dixon Co. NE for 1880 to no avail. Adams was on the 1890 special veterans census in Dixon Co. NE.
In my wanderings I have come across a cemetery listing of SUSANNAH PENNINGTON at Wolf Creek Cemetery located at the Wolf Creek Baptist Church on Highway 628 about 2-3 miles west of I-75 in Whitley Co., KY. No information appears on the grave marker other than her name and the date of death which is 13 October, 1834. There are no other Penningtons listed as being buried at the cemetery and there are no related family names shown.. This discovery could be of significance if it could be determined that this Susannah is the Susannah Kelly who married Elijah Pennington in 1800. The Elijah who married Susannah Kelly was the son of Micajah Pennington and Rachael Jones Pennington. The 1800 marriage of Susannah and Elijah was in the Ashe Co., NC area and very little if anything is known of Elijah after 1800. He was born in 1761 and may have been married to some other lady before he met Susannah. If this Susannah is Susannah Kelly (which admittedly is a long shot) it would show that she apparently spent some of her life in Whitley County which would likely indicate a relationship to other Whitley County Penningtons, and particularly Wells Pennington who moved his family through Whitley County during the years ca 1818 to 1828. I have speculated that Elijah Pennington might have been the father of Wells. I would certainly welcome comments especially from anyone who might have an ID on this Whitley County Siusannah. Hi Steve, Last April you wrote me that William M. Pennington and Drusilla Smithson m.- 25 Nov 1780 in Brunswick Co., Va and had the following children: MARY PENNINGTON (marrried WYATT HARPER (my ancestors) Nancy Pennington Patsy Pennington John Pennington Benjamin Pennington Charles Pennington Clement S. Pennington Sally W. Pennington Elizabeth Pennington Nathaniel Pennington Do you have a record of the ancestors of William M. Pennington? I saw your response to Justin Green regarding John Pennington and Mary Pair, where yiu indicated you have traced some Penningtons back to Thomas Penningyton, the progenietor of Group 10 Penningtons. Maybe William M. Pennington can also be trace to him. Also do you have a source for the names of William M. Pennington's children? I appreciate your help. Thanks! Sincerely, REGINALD L. June, 1880, Franklin Co., AL - migrated to Texas and NM, d. Jan., 1960). I am looking for documentation, stories, information, etc. about the Alabama Penningtons (Fayette, Lamar, and Franklin Counties). If anyone has information I would really appreciate the help. Justin, There was indeed a John Pennington from Sussex Co who married Mary Pair abt 1738. Mary was the d/o Rebecca Bethel and William Pair and sister of Rebecca Pair who married Thomas L Pennington (John's cousin). I show that John and Mary had a daughter Sarah who married a John/Joshua Moss. However this info comes from other people and I've not confirmed it with adequate sources. I'd be interested in knowing your sources and seeing Mary's will. I do have a copy of John Pennington's will, and his ancestors back two generations to Thomas Pennington, the prognietor of Group 10. I'll gladly work with you and share what I have, but must run now. Steve P. >Go to IGI...LDS open www.familysearch.org >There are three postings:- > > Heneage Ogilvie PENNINGTON Thank you Donald - yes, I knew about those. I was hoping that they might also be in someone else's family tree on this list. I received Heneage Pennington's death certificate yesterday - sadly the poor man died a pauper in a Lambeth workhouse in 1844, at 75 years old. He had been a coal merchant. Interestingly enough, on his son John's marriage certificate in 1846 he notes his father as a coal merchant - certainly not as a pauper! Family pride. Nevertheless, he did let his father die in a workhouse. Makes you speculate about the reasons for this. It appears Heneage married 3 times; in 1794 to Sarah LONG, in 1808 to Sarah ALVIN and sometime round 1830 to Ruth ??? I have yet to confirm the first and third marriage. He had several children to his second marriage (his son John Franklyn PENNINGTON is my gg-grandfather). John Franklyn PENNINGTON went on to be a prosperous feather merchant. He later died in 1883, and his son Franklyn was at his bedside (the death certificate mentions this - quite informative with address information for the deceased and the person who witnessed the death). The only person attendant at Heneage's deathbed was the Workhouse Master. The certificate said that Heneage died of 'senilitas' which I guess is senility. Just a little bit of family history that I thought might interest people.
